Camping Le Raguenes Plage: Beach with direct access on a private traffic-free footpath

General

  • Beachfront site five minutes' drive from Nevez in Brittany
  • A 15-minute drive to Pont-Aven and 25 minutes to Glenan Islands boats
  • Pools, sauna, bar-restaurant; GR 34 route and private road to beach

Interested in white sand beaches, blue seas, deserted islands, the land of Paul Gaugin? No need to cross the Pacific for it. Brittany's Finistère region is a wild and windswept area of beaches and coves, harbours and cliffs looking out to clusters of islands off the Atlantic coast: much recommended…

If you're a sensible sort who returns to Brittany year after year, be more sensible still and sort a stay at Camping Le Raguenes Plage, for a friendly welcome and a supremely comfortable setting a 10-minute stroll from the beach.

Don’t hit the beach just yet though, as there’s a pair of pools on site to swim, float, slide and splash in, and other plentiful facilities including a games room, with table tennis, table football and a boules court. If you can spare the time, the team lays on daily activities and entertainments in the summer months.

For more restful times, steam away your cares in the sauna or sip a glass of something in the sunshine at the bar.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The bar is open between 20/05 and 30/09.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 20/05 and 17/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Nice and neat campsite..we especially liked the pool area and the long walks along the beach path. The bathroom facilities were OK, should have been cleaner but I think it's more to do with the plenty kids than lack of cleaning.

    Disliked:

The shop and the restaurant were lacking of goods/food and the nearest shop was 4.5 km away, which was very inconvenient with motorhome.
I was surprised that considering that 50% of the guests were not French, the staff didn't speak other language than French.

    The facilities are excellent
The swimming pools/slides occupy us all for hours and hours of fun
The daily bread / pastries delicious
Great walk to the beautiful beach through private access route
    Excellent & friendly staff

Great option for keeping kids occupied and happy.

    Disliked:

The pitches are quite snug and close proximity to eachother.

Noisy dogs/kids after 10.30pm - should invest in earplugs!

Not for anyone wanting a peaceful spacious camping wild experience.

Loved the pool and activities areas both were kept on a good condition. The restaurant and takeaway food, whilst a bit limited, was delicious. Takeaway pizzas were great.
The shop was well stocked with the basics and has freshly cooked baguettes and croissants in the morning.
The toilets and showers were clean and functional.
The beach is within walking distance and is great for rock pooling.

    Disliked:

Pitches were small. Due to an issue we actually brought smaller tent than planned and it only just gotten on with our other equipment and car. Our neighbours had a caravan with awning, a gazebo and a 3 person tent on their pitch and their tent was put over our guy ropes encroaching on our pitch!
Unfortunately, the showers had an issue where there was no hot water for 2.5 days out of the 5 we were there. Cold showers were not fun.
WiFi needed to be paid for and mobile data signal was practically no existent.

No free Wi-Fi you can pay for it but it isn’t covered on all the site so ended up paying for something cannot use.

Be better if there was a map showing the areas of the park accessible so can choose to pay and sit in those zones to use. I’d then know I wouldn’t have it on my pitch.

Size of the pitch which allowed multiple units. Good facilities. Great location and friendly staff. Well maintained site with clean facilities, the staff clearly work hard to maintain a good standard. Check in and out was easy and no pressure.

Clean and tidy Show and Toilet facilities. Men's showers warm and decent pressure but female's wife said occasionally were cool/cold. 2 Blocks onsite

Washing up and large sinks for cloth washing available

Small bar and restaurant (need to book) but pleasant. Staff friendly and polite.

takeaway pizza and frites available and very reasonable

Pool area nice and open til late for the kids (unsupervised).

onsite shop small but had most of the basics (bread, milk, cold meats and alcohol) but local intermarche only 5-10 mins in car in Nevez.

Lots of lovely local beaches but waves very small so not for Surfers (had to travel for over an hour for decent surfing conditions).

    Disliked:

No 4G/5G at site location (roaming) and wifi pricey so we avoided signing up. However roaming seemed very patchy across lots of Brittany on days out so probably a common issue on other sites.

site roads towards back of campsite smaller for large touring setups, we have large double axle and wouldn't have got on or off pitch without a motor mover. Most roads onsite were effectively single track, no one-way system.

Site doors only open about 8.30 am so take this into consideration when leaving if you have to make a Ferry etc.

Good facilities and bar and pizza bar good The bar was a nice place to go for an evening drink but found the food service extremely slow on our last evening. Slow to provide a menu and then follow up service.

    Disliked:

Slow service for food in the bar. The entire campsite was very busy and cramped which meant that the pool and slides were extremely busy. There were a lack of lifeguards all the time on poolside and the indoor pool was heavily chlorinated, questionable cleaning routine???

Local attractions

It’s 10 minutes' walk down a private and car-free road to the beach for swimming, fishing and watersports. If you’re conserving your energy, take the shuttle bus to the surf school from the site.

For shops, eats, supplies and gentle wanderings, Nevez is a five-minute drive away. If you’ve got an urge to wander further, the GR 34 route (known as the Customs Officers’ Path) passes right by the site as part of a an 1,800-kilometre network of hiking trails along the Brittany coast. Should you prefer to stick to pavements, try arty Pont-Aven (15 minutes' drive) – former home of Gaugin and his followers and now to an excellent museum and gallery – and Concarneau (25 minutes), an old walled town with very snappable harbour and beach.

Doable in a day (and you’ll kick yourself if you don’t), the stones of Carnac are an hour and 15 minutes away, near a burial mound and museum showing how humans have valued this part of the world for millennia. You’ll value this landscape too after a trip to the Glenan islands, an archipelago justifiably compared to Tahiti for its lagoons and wildflowers.

Divers and sailors flock to the islands for the breezes and the clear seas, and hikers, strollers and picnickers are just as well provided for on the dunes and long beaches. Boats leave Concarneau and Bénodet (25 and 50 minutes) for the Glénan islands, or you could head an hour and a half away to Quiberon for sailings to bigger, busier Belle-Île.
