  • Spacious Finistère site with sea views and direct beach access
  • A 40-minute drive from Concarneau and boats to the Glénan Islands
  • Kayak hire on site; next to the GR 34 walking/bike path
A sandy beach, heaps of space and all the salt-tinged sea air you can possibly fill your lungs with – such are the rewards for guests at Brittany bolthole Camping de L'Île Percée. Settle in to this quiet corner of Finistère and a calming coastal break beckons, with direct access to secluded Plage de Trenez and gorgeous views out to the island that gives the site its name, just a few metres from the shoreline. If you’re in the mood for low-key days on the beach, you’re in a very fine spot; should you instead be seeking to accompany your seaside days with a smattering of activities, that’s easily sorted too. Sea kayaks and special fishing kayaks can be hired on site, and there are entry points nearby for folk who’d like to don their scuba kit and see what’s under the surface. For land-based leg stretching, set out on the GR 34 coastal path, which passes just by the site. You can even take in the sea views without moving a muscle, as they can be seen from right there on site. Should you require a break from gazing at the waves there are games of pétanque and table tennis on hand, plus a playground for les enfants. A shop, snack bar and bread service take care of eats, and it’s worth keeping an eye out for various themed meals and social events in summer. Restaurants, supermarkets and more shops are 10 minutes’ drive away in Moëlan-sur-Mer.

Local attractions

Once you’ve seen the petite island just by the site, it’s worth heading further along the coast to see some of its rather larger cousins. Drive to Raguénez (half an hour) and you can even walk to one – it’s only accessible for a few hours around low tide but there’s a splendid sandy beach next to it where you can await the right conditions. For the gorgeous Glénan Islands (aka the Breton Tahiti: how fab does that sound?) you’ll need to plot a course to the harbour in Concarneau (40 minutes). While you’re in town, meet sea beasties at the Marinarum aquarium or stroll around Château de Keriolet. Still got an appetite for island antics? Drive to Lorient (40 minutes) to take a ferry to Groix for beaches, birdwatching and bike rides. Turn your sights inland for more family-friendly days out including horse riding in Toulfoën forest (20 minutes), Adrénature adventure park (half an hour) and Pont Scorff Zoo (35 minutes).
