If white sandy beaches feature heavily on your holiday wishlist, take a quick look at the pictures for this site… because Le Vivier is less than 150 metres away from the gorgeous sands of Plage Roc'h ar gonc, near Meneham on Finistère’s north coast.
Access to the beach is along a quiet footpath, and being able to trot along there whenever you fancy it – for a picnic, some watersports or a (sometimes chilly) dip – is one of the real selling points of this place. It’s not the only one though, because this family-run site also has a friendly atmosphere that’s just for chilled-out holidays by the coast.
The site is arranged around an old farmhouse and run by the third generation of the family that have lived and worked here. It’s all about relaxing and socialising in the open air here, so you’ll have access to a grassy sports area (for football, basketball and volleyball) plus two pétanque courts, a ping-pong table and a collection of board games.
Keeping the spirit of the current owner’s grandfather alive, kids are invited to join in with a weekly ‘shared old man’ session, harvesting veg from the garden before cooking and sharing it. The sociable atmosphere carries on over at the firepit, where you can cook pizzas and relax on the pallet sofa. Several families come back to this site year after year, so a campfire evening makes a good time to pick up all their local tips.
To preserve the vibe here, guests are asked to keep things quiet from 10pm to 8am and do their part in keeping the bathrooms clean. Dogs are welcome on site as long as they’re supervised.

Local attractions
To the beach? It’s only 500 metres away, and you’ll be able to sign up for surf school or eat excellent ice cream once you get there. Without straying too far along the coast you can also hit the beach in Kerlouan (five minutes’ drive) and seek out the little Chappelle Pol (10 minutes), hidden away among the rocks.
Looking a little further afield, Finistère has heaps of lovely beaches and coastal walks, plus places for shore fishing. You may also like to take a boat trip from Roscoff (45 minutes) to the island of Batz or head to Brest (40 minutes) to learn all about marine life at Oceanopolis.
For more kid-friendly days out, look to places like Legende De Trains (15 minutes) or the numerous rides of the Les Trois Curés theme park (half an hour). And for a more peaceful day out, perhaps a visit to Château de Kerjean (half an hour) or a stroll around the Garden National Botanical Conservatory of Brest (40 minutes).
