  • Campsite with sea views in Finistère’s Site Natura 2000 de Guissény
  • Étang du Curnic 15 minutes’ walk and Plouguerneau 10 minutes’ drive
  • Caravan bar, pétanque courts and play area; direct access to the beach
Direct access to a sandy beach in a protected Natura 2000 landscape. Cycling and hiking along the long-distance GR34 Customs Trail. Spectacular Atlantic views. That’s what you can look forward to when you book your stay at Camping du Curnic in Finistère, run by David and Manu, long-time friends and residents of the local town Guissény (five minutes’ drive) since 2003. Spread over around 10 acres, the campsite was extensively renovated in 2023, with solar-powered shower blocks and a constant supply of hot water plus outdoor facilities including secure bike storage and charging stations for electric bikes. There are lots of chances for family fun in the outdoors too, like the play area, pétanque courts and a laidback caravan bar (which serves takeaways too) with a sheltered terrace, while a food truck sometimes puts in an appearance as well. Accommodation comes in all shapes and sizes, with some pitches set among the dunes and others – neatly partitioned by hedgerows – closer to the aforementioned facilities. Dogs are welcome to join you on your Finistère jaunt, and no doubt they will welcome all the exercise as you explore the untamed Côte des Legends on foot. Happily the beach is canine-friendly too.

Local attractions

Active families can keep themselves occupied with wild swimming, escapades aboard kayaks and paddleboards or learning how to sail dinghies at the Base Nautique de Guissény (five minutes’ walk, all abilities catered for). For the more adventurous, there’s also kitesurfing on reliable waves at quiet Plage du Vougo (15 minutes). Strike out from the campsite on the GR34 hiking trail to witness dramatic seascapes from the clifftops, or canter along the beach at sunset aboard ponies from the local riding school (five minutes’ drive). Alternatively, hire mountain bikes in Plouguerneau (10 minutes) to follow mountain bike tracks including the circular Hafen Morgat route over rough ground, for which some expertise is needed. For gentler days out, head to Étang du Curnic (15 minutes’ walk), separated from the sea by a narrow spit of land, to spot bitterns, sandpipers and swans among the reeds, or see if you can glimpse rare orchids on a stroll around the wetlands of Site Natura 2000 de Guissény (also 15 minutes).
