  • Quiet and friendly site 25 miles from Roscoff, run by a British couple
  • By Lac du Drennec in a national park; watersports centre close by
  • Beach, lakeside restaurant and bar
What a splendid site. There's pretty much all you need at the serene and mightily scenic lakeside site of Camping Le Drennec in Brittany – 'idyllic', 'little paradise' and 'wonderful' are among the guest accolades here... If you're arriving from or on your way to L'Angleterre, you'll likely hurrah at the setting too, hidden away in a rural spot but only 45 minutes' drive from Roscoff. Guests of all ilks will be well pleased too to hear of Le Drennec's other fab features: a spectacular lakeside location beside the fishing haven of Lac du Drennec; surroundings in Finistère's Armorique Regional Natural Park; a beach right next door, and a hugely warm and friendly welcome from English owners Belinda and Andrew. Facilities include a tennis court, a covered outdoor area with picnic tables and a shop selling ice creams, snacks and basic provisions. The beach next to the lake has a play area, volleyball net and table tennis; guests can of course also use the sands as a launching point for lake paddles and swims, or amble over to the watersports centre two minutes' walk away for more active lake-based options. Fishing's a popular pastime in the lake too; just make sure you bag a local permit before casting off. Also next to the lake is the swish Au Lac bar and restaurant, with terrace and accompanying stunning view, plus a changing menu of homemade food. There's a communal barbecue and firepit if you'd rather sort supper or breakfast pitchside; bread can be ordered in advance for the following day and supplies picked up in local town Commana, 10 minutes' drive away. On site, there's a snack shack serving a selection of hot food at weekends in low season and every evening in July and August.

What customers say

This peaceful, friendly campsite is ideally located just minutes from a beautiful lake, offering opportunities for swimming, walking, and watersports. Pitches are generally spacious and well-maintained, with many set amongst trees providing shade. Campers praised the welcoming and helpful owners, the on-site snack shack serving delicious burgers, and the availability of fresh bread and pastries. While some facilities were noted as dated, they were consistently described as clean and functional. The relaxed atmosphere and natural surroundings make it a popular choice for a quiet getaway.

Jacob's Hideout on-site touring caravan

Le Jardin electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site. Although fairly remote, the location is beautiful, with a local village only 10mins by car. The lake is beautiful. The camp is well kept, clean facilities with handy bread / croissant ordering for breakfast & a wonderful trailer kitchen offering nachos / paninis / burgers etc from roughly 6.30 - 8pm. Food excellent + very well priced. The hosts here are particularly lovely & friendly filled with local knowledge.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Easy drive from the ferry at Roscoff.
Cosy, woodland site, short walk to the lake.
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Private sinks as well as showers.

Disliked Sometimes the water was only warm rather than hot. Other than this, it was a fantastic site - we loved it!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely campsite run by really nice people, really nice vibe to the whole place and we'll definitely be back. Right next to the lake which was great too. Don't miss the burgers from the 'snack shack', these were honestly one of our favourite things we ate in France AND she used our gluten free burger buns so those in our party who were GF could have one - thankyou so much for this!

Disliked Maybe one more loo cubicle for the gents? Some people seemed to take a while doing their business...

Local attractions

Lac du Drennec covers 110 hectares so is a stellar spot for watersports, lakeside walks and wildlife spotting; it's a famed brown and rainbow trout fishing lake too, with about 8,000 rainbow trout of up to 2kg added to the waters each year. Also close by, nearby riding stable can arrange hacks out into the countryside and natural park surrounds around the lake. For hiking further afield, Belinda and Andrew recommend wanders around the Monts d'Arrée mountain range: a top pick to hike up to is Saint-Michel Chapel on Mont Saint-Michel de Brasparts, accessible from Saint-Rivoal 10 minutes' drive away. The spectacular views from here include the Brittany peat bogs, the lake at Brennilis and countryside all the way to Morlaix Bay: bring your camera along. The north and west coasts of Brittany are within 30 to 45 minutes' drive.
