General

  • Family-friendly site in the popular seaside resort of Bénodet
  • A 300-metre walk from the sea and 400 metres from Bénodet's main beach
  • Waterpark with slides, bar, shop and multisports ground

Not one… not two… not even three – but four golden sandy Brittany beaches are within a paltry kilometre's amble from family-friendly seaside site Camping de la Plage in Finistère, 15 minutes' stroll from the seaside resort of Bénodet where the Odet river meets the sea, 300 metres from the water and 400 from Bénodet's main beach.

Shellfish, shrimp and crab fishing, watersports and simply lounging on the sands are all exceptionally easy from this southern Brittany coast setting next to these four golden beaches; in town, there are art galleries and museums, a casino and creperies to keep you occupied, while mountain biking, climbing and quite a few other outdoor activities are available nearby.

But you'll likely want to laze around on site for some time too... For Camping de la Plage has a big and quite fab waterpark, made up of a large heated indoor pool, two waterslides, two hot tubs and a kids' paddling pool – and aqua gym sessions in the heated outdoor pool in July and August.

Among the many other facilities are a bar, an outdoor fitness circuit and an indoor weights room, a multisports court, a pétanque court, indoor and outdoor ping pong tables and a games room with billiards and table football. If you're hankering after some organised entertainment after long sunny days at the beach, karaoke, dances and themed evenings are held in July and August.

Among the site's amenities are an accessible block with toilets, hot showers and a baby bathroom, and a launderette with washers and dryers.

Barbecues are allowed.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 17/05 and 21/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The indoor swimming pool is open between 17/05 and 21/09.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site only allows dogs up to 10kg.

The swimming pools are heated from 17/05 to 01/09.

the swimming and waterpark area was a perfect size to ... 10/09/2018

the swimming and waterpark area was a perfect size to see my kids enjoying themselves - normally we go to cornwall and there isn't a pool or its too cold. but the heated pool with the canopy and slides were a hit for my 6,8 and 11 year old.

our pitch was at the further back of the campsite and we preferred this than being closer to the reception. our tent is a big one so they made sure it fit on our pitch. we made really good friends with our French neighbour and the kids enjoyed playing with their kids too.

the staff made sure we were all settled in and helped with the electrics - giving us a further extension lead as our normal electric fuse box wasn't long enough.

the campsite offered a kids club which they only went once, but they enjoyed it. there is a playground, table tennis and bouncy castles all provided for.

location wise, we thought it was perfect and literally 5 mins walk to the beach where we saw some lovely sunsets.

    Disliked:

I think it is a general thing that we found in france and the public toilets are just a challenge to find a clean one!

the campsite has about 4 toilet blocks and we had the older block nearest to us. very dated and needs revamping.

the blue shower rooms were ok but very dated. the yellow showers were so much better so we used them more but only available in the late afternoons.

handwash should be provided - we had to buy our own.

sometimes the toilets were clean, sometimes people hadnt bothered to flush it or clean up after themselves which wasnt fair on my children if they had gone by themselves and had to clean up (or they came back to me and i had to clean for them)

strongly suggest a more intense cleaning rota rather than once a day. as sometimes they were clean, sometimes they werent. i noticed the staff did only clean in the afternoon.

the new shower and toilet blocks were super clean and brand new and this was near the reception so we used this when coming back from the pool or going to the beach.

The site was very clean, well run, plenty to do with my six year old. The owners and staff were very accomodating and very friendly. Although not the biggest site in Benodet, this site was perfect for us. Quiet but enough on site to do with swimming pools, trampolines, bar, play areas and only a 2 minute walk to the sea front.

There was great facilities for children which kept my daughter very happy.
The washrooms were spotlessly clean and plenty of them.
The pitches were very private with hedges between them.
The beach was just a couple of minutes walk and supermarket was just a short drive away
An excellent campsite which my daughter and myself loved and would recommend it.

    Disliked:

The pool rules were a bit ridiculous , no food or drinks and no sun lotion!!!

Stayed at the site for 9 days, this was our first time camping in France and thoroughly enjoyed it.From the moment we arrived we found the staff very welcoming and helpfull. We were shown round to our pitch to confirm we were happy with it which we were. Site has great facilities, good clean toilets and shower areas, plenty Potwash and vegetable preperation areas, on site bar, snack bar and a great shop/bakery serving fresh croissants ect in the morning, pool was great and also clean although men must wear swimming trunks not swim shorts which we were Un aware of, most of the pitches have hedges around them giving a degree of privacy which was nice. The site is in a great location being only a few minutes from the beach. Reception staff were really knowledgeable on the local area and things to do.

Local attractions

A few days at least should be spent on the four sandy stretches local to the site: the Benodet beaches of Trez, with beach club and beach cabin as well as catamaran and windsurf rental, 400 metres away; the protected lagoon of La Letty, 500 metres away; Saint Gilles, the spot for shellfish, shrimp and crab fishing, also 500 metres away, and Coq, a kilometre away facing the Odet river estuary.

Within easy ambling distance too is a casino, within 600 metres, and the Benodet Seaside Museum within a kilometre, showcasing the town's relationship with the sea and how it's changed throughout the centuries. Benodet Marina, the departure point for trips to the Glénan Islands and Sainte Marine, as well as the starting point for many Brittany races and regattas, is two kilometres away.

Also easy to get to from here is Quimper (17 kilometres), Finistère's capital and an anciently traditional city with cobbled streets, half-timbered buildings, footbridges and many residents wandering around in traditional Breton dress. Have a look too at the cathedral of Saint-Corentin, with its bendy middle (go see) and the nearby museum of fine arts, home to hundreds of paintings alongside regular events and shows.

More must-see old piles are at Concarneau, 19 kilometres away; if your tastes tend more towards nature hikes, the Armorique Regional Natural Park is under 60 kilometres from Benodet.
