Cosy coastal stays are on the cards at Les Tinys de Pommorio, a little cluster of glamping lodges in the grounds of an 18th-century château on the outskirts of the Brittany village of Tréveneuc.
When the folk here call their units ‘Tiny’ they’re certainly not lying… but the microlodges are cunningly designed to make sure they don’t feel poky in the slightest. Each one has been cleverly kitted out with a full-size double bed (accessed via a ladder up to the mezzanine), a kitchenette, a dry toilet and a shower.
A solar panel outside the lodge produces enough energy to charge phones and tablets, but there’s no wifi or TV service here, and only very patchy phone signal. No matter, say the wise owners – it’s far better to step away from the screens for wanders in the surrounding woods, days of golf, horse riding, hiking and bike riding or strolls up to the beach and coast path 20 minutes away on foot.
Or of course you could just find a comfy spot to settle down there on site – it’s a mighty peaceful place, with a soundtrack of birdsong and a chance for observant types to spy deer and fox roaming in the woods. Sort yourself with supplies of food and drink from Tréveneuc or the bigger Saint-Quay-Portrieux (five kilometres away) and you’re all sorted for chilled-out evening out in the open air with your beloved/your travelling pals.

Local attractions
Could that be the sea calling your name? It’s only a kilometre away, so it’s highly likely… It’s just up to you to decide whether you settle on Palus beach, head out for a walk on the Côtes d’Armor stretch of the GR34 hiking trail or pedal along part of the EuroVelo 4 bike route (just don’t get carried away – it’s more than 5,000 kilometres long…).
For different views of the Brittany coast and countryside, a couple of riding stables within a few minutes’ drive can sort days in the saddle, and there’s a golf course 10 minutes’ drive away. Sailing, sea kayaking and scuba diving outings can also be sorted in Saint-Quay-Portrieux, just under 10 minutes away.
Glimpses of the area’s past can be had at the Musée de la Mer (25 minutes) and at the medieval Château de La Roche Jagu (35 minutes’ drive). If you’re more of a fan of the natural world, take trips to Zooparc de Trégomeur (15 minutes) and the Terrarium de Kerdanet (half an hour).
