If you're setting off to stay in the Côtes-d’Armor area, it’s fair to guess that you're probably hoping to see the sea… and see the sea you can indeed from Camping Les Hortensias, a simple site backing onto Porz Morvan Bay. This peaceful and scenic stretch of Brittany's Atlantic coast is dotted with excellent bathing beaches, the nearest of which is only a few hundred metres away. Can’t get enough of those coastal views? The ever-popular Côte de Granit Rose (Pink Granite Coast) is a few minutes away by car. Walkers, meanwhile, have direct access to the GR34 trail, and can check out 12 different hiking trails around the Douron Valley to the south, where gorgeous coastal valleys, cliffs and hillsides make for very varied days out. This site's large and well-defined pitches are surrounded by lots of greenery, making Camping Les Hortensias an excellent base for a few days of rural relaxation. Some basic facilities are available here (including accessible toilets and hot showers, a token-powered washing machine and a washing-up area). All the facilities of Plestin-les-Grèves are a five-minute drive away, and you can also walk into town in about half an hour. Handily, there’s a seaside crêperie halfway there should you need to stop and refuel en route, and there are often food trucks in town. Dogs are welcome here, and although Plestin-les-Grèves' beaches are for human guests only, Saint-Michel-en-Grève (10 minutes away) has a stretch of dog-friendly sand that may come in handy.

Liked: Mooie uitzicht en rust. Geen chalets, gewoon voor echte kampeerders.

Disliked: De camping kan wel wat liefde gebruiken! Zeer verouderd sanitair, een paar deuren zonder sloten, zo jammer. Geeft een vieze indruk, terwijl er wel goed schoongemaakt was. De plek is heel mooi en het hoeft niet luxe te zijn, maar onderhoud doet wonderen voor je verblijf.

Liked: The pitch, grass and electric, gorgeous view of the sea, sheltered position but sunny. Quiet campsite. Close to town amenities and ideal base for cycling

Disliked: Shower and toilet block in a poor state of repair. Water barely warm. Very poorly lit at night, lights on very short timers and switches out of reach when they go off. Dangerous sharp broken floor tiles everywhere around the toilet block

Liked: We were the only people on site for 1 night as end of season.So peaceful. Great pitch where we could see the sea. Enjoyed going down to beach in the evening. Facilities old fashioned but clean and worked well. Shower hot.

Liked: Le camping est très verdoyant, très nature, très calme, avec des emplacements vue sur mer à couper le souffle.
Les sanitaires ont un délicieux charme rétro mais sont propres.

Très bien situé avec beaucoup de jolis endroits à visiter autour. La région est magnifique et authentique.
Idéal pour des vacances au vert et au calme, nous recommandons 1000 fois!

Liked: L'eau chaude des douches. Le calme.

Disliked: Manque d'entretien des espaces verts (ronces et orties), boîtier électrique par terre. Sanitaires médiocres (jamais vu quelqu'un faire le ménage, poubelles pas vidées, papier WC non fourni). La faïence des douches a été refaite mais il faudrait refaire le sol ainsi que le plafond qui est fait en planches. Du jour passe de chaque côté des portes. Lave linge en panne durant notre séjour (sûrement même avant). Cassettes des eaux usées à vider dans des WC turques et un bout de tuyau de 20 cm pour nettoyer. Camping annoncé pour familles, il n'y a même pas un malheureux bac à sable ou une balançoire. Pour nous, ce camping ne mérite pas les 2 étoiles.

Liked: Lieu absolument exceptionnel en tout point, de l accueil, au points de vue fabuleux. Je recommande vivement ce petit camping entre les criques et les plages. Idéales pour les amoureux de la nature préservées. Je recommande vivement.

Local attractions

The shoreline is the star around these parts – and there are many gorgeous spots to seek out. Stay close to home for days at places like Plage des Sables Blancs (10 minutes’ drive) or venture a little further for walks around the rocky views of Le Trou du Diable (20 minutes). The pretty pink rocks and lighthouses of Ploumanac’h (40 minutes) and ferry trips to Île de Bréhat (an hour) may be a little further away, but they're worth the trip. There’s history around too: perhaps you’d like to poke around in the megalithic mausoleum Cairn de Barnenez (half an hour) or see a rather more stylish abode in the form of Château de Kerjean (50 minutes). Lannion (20 minutes) has lots of old half-timbered houses to see as you stroll – for the best view, climb the 140 Brélévenez steps to the top of the town. Bring yourselves right back to the here and now with a trip to Karaez Adrénaline (55 minutes) – the adventure park’s treetop courses, zipline and big jump will surely get your heart rate going. Back down at ground level, there’s a great maze for the small ones to explore too.
