  • Fully-equipped site in the Burgundy wine region
  • On the shores of the Yonne river
  • More than 60km of biking trails nearby
Guaranteed to make you merry… Burgundy's Camping Merry-sur-Yonne is in smashingly colourful setting on the banks of the Yonne river, in a lush land of flower-filled fields, windmills, long bike rides, fishing, hundreds of kilometres' worth of Yonne sailing, and the plush landscapes of the Burgundy vineyards: have a holiday here to be well chuffed with your lot. The campsite is set in a bend of the Yonne, with designated strolling paths and marked cycle routes (bike hire is available if you haven't brought your own). Its facilities are well set up to see you sorted for days staying on site: there's a restaurant with three-course daily menus, a café, a bar with local beers, and an on-site shop selling local produce. Camping Merry-sur-Yonne also has a luxury toilet block with unlimited water for hot showers as well as swish handmade artisan baths; two tennis courts, and a kids' play zone with swings, slides, and climbing. Parents can sink into the shade of the trees and umbrellas outside the café to keep an eye on the kids over the cocktail of the day or a tasty snack: that might make things somewhat merry too.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This is the second time we've stayed here and wasn't disappointed. Set in the beautiful French countryside. Facilities spotless. We ate at the site restaurant and it was delicious and good value for money. Ordered croissants and baguette from the on site shop which were lovely. Really enjoyed our stay yet again

Disliked: Nothing

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The shop was well stocked and the food in the restaurant was good. But considering the owners are British, a menu in English would be good. The serving staff have no English. My white wine wasn't chilled...not the best.

Disliked: The site is away in the middle of nowhere. Access is over an extremely narrow bridge. The pitches themselves are in need of much tlc. Very uneven and run down.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review but sadly, some of your comments are misleading and unfortunate 1) "The site is away in the middle of nowhere" - so you didn't check our actual location when you made the booking? We are very rural, quiet and idyllic, away from the noise and traffic of the towns. However, it is YOUR responsibility to check where you are booking - if you didn't want a rural location, book a site in a town..... 2) "Access is over an extremely narrow bridge" - actually, there are two bridges and they are NOT extremely narrow because the 20-tonne wagon that delivers to our large on-site grocery twice a week also comes over the same bridges. The Huge wagon that delivers the gas bottles to the site, also comes over the same bridges 3) "a menu in English would be good" - you did come to France.... it's French...... 4) "the serving staff have no English" - utterly, utterly untrue! Two of are serving staff ARE English. The other two are French and one speaks really good English and the other a basic level. Yet again, you did come to France, you know, they speak French here! Sorry your white wine wasn't chilled enough for you, but it is kept in a wine chiller all the time. If you had said something at the time, we could have dealt with it. Moaning about it on here is a bit too late for me to do something about it The pitches are not uneven - they are some of the flattest, most level pitches you will find. You think it's run-down because all the grass has died with lack of rain and high temperatures. It's not as green and lush as we'd like but beyond trying to control the weather directly ourselves (whilst we're good at a lot of things, that is outside our reach), there's not much we can do about it. Anyway, c'est la vie. Merci

The best nights sleep ever!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Really loved this campsite. It’s right in the countryside which means silence at night. It’s peaceful and tranquil. The on site shop is amazing! The stock is local and wide ranging. Pain au raisin were delicious in the morning! Facilities were very clean and you could pick your own spot to pitch for this night. Loved the environmental and recycling ethos of the site too. We took bikes and rode the canal path right from the site. We really had a lovely time.

Local attractions

With luck you'll have booked a couple of weeks, as there's heaps to see and do around Camping Merry-sur-Yonne to attend to all tastes. A horse riding centre, fishing spots and watersports are all nearby if you're feeling active, along with a golf course about half an hour away. The 62-kilometre bike trail near the site runs mostly along the Nivernais canal with only a few hills, so is sorted for family bike rides. A must in the region is the Yonne Vineyards Trail, meandering through the countryside that produces some of the best known Burgundy wines, like famed Chablis and its neighbours in the Auxerrois and Tonnerrois regions, as well the slightly further afield vineyards of Joigny to the north and Vézelay to the south.
