- Peaceful, well-maintained lakeside site 25 minutes’ drive from Beaune
- Côte d’Or wineries 15 minutes’ drive; Châteauneuf-en-Auxois 40 minutes
- Swimming in Lake Nolay; tennis court next door; shops 10 minutes’ walk
Set in the middle of the Côte d’Or wine-growing region, Camping Onlycamp Les Chaumes du Mont is 25 minutes’ drive from historic Beaune. This pleasant spot borders Lake Nolay and its beach; it’s a small, family-friendly site with grass pitches partially shaded by mature trees.
You can soak up the sun on the waterside beach, and then cool down with a refreshing swim in the lake (it’s only supervised in July and August). Kids can work off energy at the playground or on the municipal tennis court next to the site, and there are dog walks among the trees if you have four-legged companions. Keen to get in some Burgundy wine tasting? Several vineyards are open for tours and tastings within 15 minutes’ drive.
On-site facilities to make your holiday a breeze include baby-equipment hire, hot showers and a washing-up area. You can find grocery shops and bakeries in Nolay (10 minutes’ walk), along with bistros and wine bars serving local vintages.

Local attractions
Active types can keep up their daily exercise regime with swims in the lake or knocking a ball around on the adjacent tennis court. For something a bit more adrenaline-inducing, brave souls can try paragliding at the Montagne des Trois Croix (15 minutes’ drive), a viewpoint with lots of footpaths overlooking Burgundy vineyards.
Much better than overlooking wineries is actually visiting them and tasting their wares; there are several Côte d’Or vineyards open for guided tours, tastings and sales within 15 minutes’ drive of the site. Gorgeous Beaune (25 minutes) is another wine-lover’s hotspot with lots of bars to check out – and, of course, its distinctive half-timbered houses and hostels topped with gaily patterned tiled roofs.
You can tour more historic sights – a Roman amphitheatre, cathedral and medieval ramparts – in Autun (half an hour), or explore hilltop Châteauneuf-en-Auxois (40 minutes), built as a fortified village in the 12th century. Prefer to take a break from the car? Take a stroll into Nolay (10 minutes’ walk) to admire its timber-framed houses and have a coffee in a terrace bar.
