- Carriage rides by Percharon horses within 500 metres
Equine enthusiasts, trot your cavalry along to Camping du Perche Bellemois for horsey times of all types.
The site is in France's old Perche region, famed for its mighty shire horses the Percheron, probably the best known French breed around the world. It's a mere half kilometre from this Lower Normandy and Orne department base to bag traditional carriage rides around this peaceful and scenic countryside – pulled by a pair of Percheron horses on a guided tour and part of a range of horsey activities in the surrounding Perche Regional Natural Park.
Other outdoor activities are abundant once you've exhausted the equestrian options, as Camping du Perche Bellemois is but a couple of minutes' drive from the pretty town of Bellême, the historic capital of the Perche region and a starting point for treks and hikes among its hills, valleys, fields and forests. Much more of the same is easily accessed among Bellême forest just outside town, which has several well-marked trails for hiking and mountain biking as well as ponds for fishing.
You may at this point be rather relieved to learn that less active options are abundant very close by too: a public pool next door popular with guests is next door to the site, and you'll be a few minutes' walk from Bellême's other leisure facilities including a playground, tennis court, miniature golf and swish 18-hole golf course.
There's a play area on site, and picnic tables await your alfresco eats. A lake is 500 metres away for leisurely days lounging on its bank.

You're well sorted for active and more relaxed options within a short trot of the site: ask the friendly team about accessing those splendid Percheron horse carriage rides, or take your tees, clubs and golfing skills to the Bellême Saint Martin Golf Club, a couple of hundred metres away.
There's direct access to the Bellême pool from the site, as well as to the town skate park if you have wheelie-based teens on hol with you rather than smaller sorts. You'll also be conveniently close to Bellême forest, to tackle hiking trails from a measly four to a boastful 19.5 kilometres, and to three heady mountain bike trails, running either through the forest or the natural park.
Source info on the park and its horses at the Ecomusee du Perche about 15 minutes' drive away, which has regular family and kids' activities among its exhibitions and displays on rural life and traditions of the 19th and 20th centuries. A festival day celebrating the Percheron horse is held every year at the museum in August.
