  • Peaceful wooded site in Calvados country
  • A 15-minute drive to Bayeux and 20 minutes to D-Day beaches
  • Half an hour to Asnelles and Arromanche beaches for windsurfing/walks
Breeze your way round Normandy’s beaches from this quiet base in Calvados country. In Bayeux,15 minutes' drive from this tree-filled site, the tapestry tells the story of the Norman invasion, and the beaches of Lower Normandy bear evidence of the more recent battles that ended World War Two. But nature's gained the upper hand, returning peace to this pretty region of sandy shores and clifftop paths, fishing towns and wetlands full of wildlife. Outside a quiet hamlet, Camping Le Creulet is a welcoming spot, surrounded by woods and fields. There’s a boules court and barbecue area for everyone to use, and paths for biking and hiking right by the site. You could start your tours in Bayeux, a handsome town whose medieval character somehow escaped the last war unscathed; it’s amply stocked with shops, supermarkets, eats and treats, and the D-Day Museum (one of many dotted around the area) provides a good introduction to the recent history. Older history is recorded in the world-famous tapestry, a must-see unless it’s been lent to Britain, so do check ahead. Saturdays are market day, time to wash farm cheeses down with locally made cider and Calvados.

What customers say

This campsite receives praise for its welcoming owners, peaceful atmosphere, and clean facilities. Guests appreciate the central location, ideal for exploring the D-Day beaches. While some reviews note the amenities are basic, they are considered good value for money. The site offers a small animal enclosure that children enjoy. Some visitors mention a lack of on-site activities for young children, suggesting it's best suited for those seeking peace and a central base. Older feedback noted dated sanitary facilities, though newer reviews do not confirm this.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Boulangerie order available

Disliked Felt like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, if you’ve ever seen that movie. You had to drive past staring permanent residents in statics before arriving in the main field, which then was occupied by 50% semi permanent residents. That’s not my sort of vibe, so it’s a personal issue. But facilities were ramshackle and poor quality, and not very clean, and quite a long walk. There was also road noise.

Liked Zeer vriendelijke eigenaren. Camping ligt op het platteland en je slaapt tussen de koeien. Heerlijk geslapen!

Disliked Het sanitair is erg verouderd. Het functioneert, maar niet meer van deze tijd.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Friendly welcome by the site staff, though if your French is basic, like mine, be sure to have a translation app at the ready. Quiet site set in farmland with the DDay beaches a short drive away.

Disliked The facilities whilst clean were very dated and the showers cramped. No toilet paper available in the loos so remember to take your own. Our allocated pitch already had a tent part way across it so we were moved along part way into the next pitch. When returning from a day exploring the DDay beaches a huge motorhome had set up in what was our pitch so we were forced move over which wasn't ideal. We were relieved we only had two nights there.

Liked Very welcoming owners the camp has everything you need but basic so if you after 5 stars pay 5 star money if you happy with the basics that are kept very clean this is for you
The reception sells cider wine and a coffee machine
There is a small animal enclosure ducks goats the kids would feed them
Everyday
I stayed here as it was very central to all dday beaches and the furthest travel was 40 min away
The camp is a great place so peacefully and bonus has Internet

Disliked Well if I was being very picky there nothing to do on the site bo fancy club house no park but that's fine I just wanted a central location
I think if you had young kids they would be bored very soon but if it just
But if its just you the misses and the dog after peace and central location to dday beaches massive plus

Local attractions

On an inlet surrounded by wetlands, Carentan (20 minutes) has walking trails to the sea and is the place to book a boat trip through the marshes. Walks through the teeming and diverse landscape of the Parc Naturel des Marais du Cotentin start from the park centre at Saint Côme du Mont. The landing beaches of Omaha and Juno are 20 and 40 minutes’ drive away, memorable and sometimes haunting spots with adjacent museums recording the stories of courage and sacrifice. From Port-en-Bessin-Huppain (15 minutes), see the D-Day beaches from the sea on a boat tour... and make sure you sample the fresh fish and scallops in the harbour town on your way through. For energetic stuff on Normandy’s breezy coastline, windsurf at Asnelles (30 minutes), zoom the beach by sand yacht at Ouistreham (40 minutes), or kayak down the Orne river at Thury-Harcourt (50 minutes). Fine old seaside towns like Arromanches-sur-Mer (half an hour) serve up the more traditional stuff like swimming, paddling and walks along the cliffs. If you want to get higher than that, the Forest Centre at St-Sauveur-le-Vicomte has treetop walks, climbs and rope swings. Or beetle over to Château Balleroy (15 minutes) to see a museum devoted to hot air ballooning.
