General

  • Holidays by the sea in the Landes region
  • Four kilometres from Biarritz
  • Heated pool, playground, barbecue area and restaurant

Now this is a smashing setting. The Pyrénées-Atlantiques's Camping Erreka is on the Basque coast 800 metres from the sands and a town centre, just north of Bidart and a piffling four kilometres from the splendid seaside town of Biarritz, known for its surfing and its casinos.

The site is set over six hectares in a wooded area, and has a heated pool available in high season, a playground, a pétanque court, table tennis, a kids' club and a football field. Entertainment is available in July and August. The site also has a central building, renovated in 2016, with a bar and snack bar for quick bites and drinks, and a restaurant dishing up meals whose very pics might make your mouths water...

A bakery, a delicatessen shop, a bus line, a supermarket and a beauty salon are all within walking distance, and the area is in a smashing setting for nearby surfing, quad biking, hiking, golf and coastal strolls.

Good site, handy to village and beach. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Toilet facilities could do with a few urinals alongside loos . And a small hand basin with soap dispenser at exit for one's hands.

Close to Bidart beach 700m walk down steepish incline. Helpful reception when open. Entertainment was fairly good for a small site. Pitch see was good and well screened. The pool was very good, we didn't use the restaurant.

    Disliked:

Site looks as if it could be managed better. The grass was long on the pitch and all other pitches, the wash block was unisex, but could be upgraded, the washing up sinks were very small old fashioned ones. Wifi was expensive, but did work ok.

Busy site, good facilities and really helpful staff 22/08/2016

Attractive site with lots of greenery, well maintained. The staff were really helpful, giving us advice and places to visit. Loved the little bar/brasserie. The staff here were lovely and the food was delicious. Area is lovely, lots of lovely places to visit and wonderful sunset over the bay.

    Disliked:

The site was really busy and bustling. We stayed at probably the busiest weekend of the year. Queues for the showers which were pretty dirty because of the sheer numbers of people using them. Toilets and wash facilities needed more cleaning in high season.i'm sure it would be fine when less busy though. Pool was quite small for the number of people too. Lots of groups of youngsters which could get a bit noisy but they were generally quite respectful.

    Staff friendly
    Beach close by
    Plenty of shops closeby

    Disliked:

Pool displayed no ball games, but numerous adults playing ball in both shallow and deep ends of pool, balls hitting young children who were unable to enjoy water due to these activities and no control or interception by camp staff
Site on a very hilly site
Parking can be difficult when busy

Very friendly southafrican receptionist. Private and big pitch. Pool and bar. Really calm environment after 11pm.

    Disliked:

Paid € 20 for a fridge for 4 days that I have to give it back after 2 days due to pitchup website not showing it in their reservation.
Toilets sinks and showers taps were appalling. Water going everywhere! Toilets accesability was great though. Wifi price too expensive. These days wifi is free almost everywhere.

Local attractions

Sporty sorts can make merry in the area around Camping Erreka, particularly if they're of the watery variety: diving and rafting as well as surfing are all popular here. Biarritz these days is a well-known surf town and holds one of the biggest surf festivals in Europe at the Biarritz Surf Festival.

Nine-hole and 18-hole golf courses are both near the site, along with quad bike hire and a treetop adventure park. You could also (should also) investigate the town of Bidart, a quieter type than its flashier neighbour Biarritz, and amble the coastal path/hike one of the region's many trails.

The city of Bayonne is famed for its summer festivals, its Basque architecture, its bridges and its Gothic Cathédrale Sainte-Marie; also a short drive away, Biarritz has much to see alongside its beaches and casinos, such as its Asiatica Museum, Museum of the Sea and – tasty – the Museum of Chocolate.
