General

  • Family friendly site in the Dordogne
  • Aquapark with three pools and whirpool bath
  • Trampoline, bouncy castle, bar and restaurant with gluten-free options

There's a cracker of an aquapark at Camping des Bastides right in the Dordogne: here water fans will find not un, not deux but trois pools, including a big one of over 200m², a smaller landing pool for the waterslide and a paddling pool for the smalls. Need just a tiny bit more? A whirlpool bath is on site to sink into too.

Out of the water, the campsite is well set up to keep all ages out of mischief, with a trampoline, bouncy castle and playground for the kids, and a sports court, pétanque court and table tennis for all guests.

Sports tournaments as well as waterpolo games and aquagym are run by the team in July and August; a kids' club runs every morning in high season, and events, excursions, and trips are scheduled throughout the school holidays.

Other facilities include a bar, a small bakery, a takeaway service and a restaurant that has a gluten-free menu among its other options.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/04 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

extremely friendly owners and fantastic staff. The location is stunning and there is lots to do for the kids, pool and slides, inflatables, trampoline and football/basketball court. Showers and toilets were kept clean. Site bar/restaurant serverd good food

    Disliked:

site shop is a bit low on provisions as well as the bar, could do with selling more bits and bobs especially for inexperienced campers like me. There is pretty much zero phone signal around the park and really needed to be able to use the wi-fi however even standing 1ft away from the router with full signal there was not a lot happening. Really need to get the Wi-fi sorted out

The owners are very helpful and friendly and speak good English. We only stayed one night as we was heading south. The facilities are good and kept clean and there is entertainment for the kids and food served on site. We have a large van so you must make this clear when booking

    Disliked:

Quite tight road on site and pitches can be small. But we have a twin axle and managed. Mover would be needed though I think

Excellent site - one of the best sites we have been to 16/07/2016

We arrived late thanks to traffic, but despite this there was a warm welcome - they even tolerated our poor french and where needed spoke excellent English. From check in we were taken to our pitch - good size pitch with plenty of shade, separated from adjacent pitches with hedges. Electric hook up close by (and we hired a fridge from the site too - full size fridge with freezer compartment which was really useful given the excellent weather!)
Two toilet blocks within easy distance with hot powerful showers - and all kept really clean.
Two swimming pools ( a childrens pool and good size pool that was 1.2m-1.6m deep) - also had a water-slide. There was also a hot-tub.
Small on site shop that you could also order bread, croissant, pain au chocolat etc so they could be freshly cooked for breakfast!
Bar that served snack and meals too, Wi-Fi at bar.
Bouncy castle, boules pitch, football pitch, and rope / climbing bridges
Lots to do in local area - lovely walled hilltop villages and lots of castles (or bastides as they are called in french) that date back to the times when the french and the English fought over the area! Canal du midi not too far away and we also did a day trip over to the world famous Lascaux caves.
All in all a beautiful site, attentive owners, one of the best sites we have visited - would highly recommend.

    Nothing.

Local attractions

Camping des Bastides is set well into the Dordogne, an area of hiking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding, and – c'est France – a place full of tasty treats in food and wine.

Castle fans have a few good options in the area: a couple of kilometres from base there's Gavaudun Fortress, a thirteenth century castle on a hill overlooking Gavaudun village; Château de Biron, also in the valley of the Lède, is about ten kilometres away, and Monflanquin, Gavaudun and Bonaguil castles are all within easy driving distance.

Heritage hunters should also check out nearby Montpazier, one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France; the handsome old village of Villeréal; the town of Fumel, and the (we insist) cave of Domme, a spectacular network of four caves underneath Domme village.

Pour les enfants, Parc en Ciel is nearby for treetop adventures, and Walibi Aquitaine theme park is about 60km away near Agen.
