Sitting between the Atlantic Ocean and the pine forests of the Landes, Camping Ushuaïa Villages La Maïade is a quiet and leafy Aquitaine site five minutes’ drive from the lively resort of Mimizan. Tucked under a leafy canopy of pines, poplar and lime trees to keep everyone cool, the spacious grass pitches all have electric hook-ups and are divided by hedges to ensure your privacy. All ages will be kept happily busy here. The (unheated) swimming pool is open from June to September, and you can organise beach volleyball and pétanque games, teach the kids to play homeball or get competitive over ping pong and darts. Toddlers have a play area to themselves, and if you need a quiet respite, you can always sneak off to find a good book in the library. Pretty much everything else is taken care of too. Stock up on essentials from the grocery store and cook alfresco on the communal barbecue as you mingle with fellow guests. Alternatively, sit the family down for homemade pizzas piled with fresh local ingredients at the snack bar – there’s live music some evenings – from where you can also pick up breakfast goodies, cold drinks and ice creams to keep the kids going during the day. Handy family-friendly touches also include pristine modern shower blocks, a launderette and a dedicated washing-up area, plus baby kits (highchair, cot and bathtub) for hire.

Liked Herrliche Ruhe, mitten in der Natur, viele Bäume, sehr freundliche Betreiber.
Schwimmbad, sehr saubere Sanitäranlagen.
Restaurant am Abend und am Morgen frische Baguettes und Croissants nach Bestellung.

Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und am Abend sehr nett bewirtet.
Es gibt einen gepflegten Pool, eine Boule Anlage, Tischtennis, einen kleinen Leseraum

Liked Der Campingplatz ist von sehr freundlichen Betreibern bestens organisiert. Der ganze Stuff war sehr nett. Unser Stellplatz ("abgelegen") befand sich am Rand und bot Privatsphäre. Jeder Abend stand auf dem Campingplatz unter einem anderen Motto (Pétanque, Paella, Pizza, ...), die Betreiber organisierten im Barbereich ein tägliches Programm. Die Sanitäranlagen waren in Ordnung und gut ausgestattet. Zudem gab es einen Baguette-Service (+ anderes Frühstück sgebäck). Auch der Pool wurde gut angenommen. Wir waren mit dem Aufenthalt sehr zufrieden.

Disliked Ab und an störte der von der Papierfabrik Mimizan herrührende Geruch. Hierfür können die Campingplatzbetreiber nichts, es ist ein Problem der ganzen Gegend.

Liked This is a great site. 50 pitches. Nice sized pitches. Everything is clean. The hosts and staff are very helpful and friendly. We hired bikes through the site and had a great time cycling to the beaches.

Strolls in the pine forests of the Landes await straight from the pitches – and you can also explore on horseback (five minutes’ drive) or head off to conquer Brittany on the Vélodyssée long-distance cycle path. There’s a golf course 10 minutes’ drive away, while the braver among you can fly high above Mimizan beaches on a microlight flight from the aerodrome (also 10 minutes). If yet more high-octane activities are called for, wear the kids out on high-ropes courses at Parc Landes Aventure (10 minutes), or try kayaking and paddleboarding on Étang d’Aureilhan (15 minutes). Should you feel like a quieter afternoon, try fishing for pike and carp from pontoons around the lake. Down on the Côte d’Argent oceanfront, you have a choice of several expansive sandy beaches. Enrol in surf lessons at Plage Sud, or take long walks along Plage Remember (both 15 minutes). If kids are in tow, make for Plage de Lespecier (20 minutes), which has lifeguards in summer as well as a laid-back beach bar serving family favourites like burgers and tapas.
