For a luxury outdoor break in the gorgeous Gironde, Lost in Sensations certainly delivers – and with an intriguing twist, too. At this forest site, on a 12-acre estate 40 minutes’ drive from Bordeaux, guests are invited to reconnect to their senses in designated spaces such as the Hearing Lounge, a soundproof private club with instruments available to help you discover your inner classical musician or rock star.
Other treats on site include an impeccably equipped wellness area with features including a sauna cabin with glass walls to admire the surrounding pine grove as you sweat it out; an outdoor heated pool (open April to late October); a yoga hut for solo or couple sessions; and two cabins where you can have massages, as well as facial and beauty treatments. A forest-bathing session can also be arranged.
After all this pampering there will come a time when you want to get in touch with your sense of taste. At that point, head to the on-site restaurant for a menu full of tasty treats like chicken liver mousse with Port wine and beef Parmentier. After dinner, the Sight Lounge, which consists of three firepits facing west, is a top spot for a digestif and views of spectacular sunsets. Alternatively, you might want to take advantage of the concierge service and book a custom-designed open-air concert or a private trapeze show.
The concierge can also organise bespoke wine itineraries, though you might prefer to hire a bike (on site) and explore the local vineyards under your own steam.

Local attractions
This area is well known as a wine-producing region, and there are plenty of vineyards and wineries awaiting for visitors. Saint-Émilion is a hotspot, of course, and there are also several excellent places to try out around Libourne; both are half an hour’s drive away.
Bordeaux (40 minutes’ drive) is another top destination for wine fans, who should start by making a beeline for the Cité du Vin for immersive exhibits and tastings. While you’re there you may also like to wander through the art displays at Bassins des Lumières, take a boat trip on the Garonne or admire views of the Place de la Bourse reflected in the Miroir d’Eau. The city’s Marché des Capucins is a good spot for tasty local eats as well.
To dip into local history, plan trips to see the ancient paintings at Pair-non-Pair Cave (20 minutes), the riverside Citadelle de Blaye fortress (half an hour) or the Gallo-Roman Villa in Plassac (35 minutes).
