It's free, quick and easy!
- Dordogne site a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ribérac
- Half an hour from Brantôme and 45 minutes from Périgueux
- Direct access to the Dronne river for fishing; canoe hire close by
La Dronne… bien sûr. That, of course, is the river that flows right past the edge of Camping de la Dronne. And the belle part? That refers to the river too, and to the surrounds in general, for this is a most scenic part of the Dordogne region.
That riverside setting and direct access to the water make this family-friendly spot particularly fab for folk who like to fish (although you’re more than welcome simply to snooze in the shade should you wish). Canoes can be hired a few minutes’ walk away if you’d like to see a little more of the river’s stunning scenery; once you’ve had a bit of practice at paddling there’s more to be done half an hour away at Brantôme.
Golf, an adventure park, cave explorations and château visits may also be on the agenda for guests here, along with plenty of places to pick at the Périgord’s fab foodie treats (think duck, asparagus, chestnuts, mushrooms, foie gras and mounds of pleasingly pungent cheeses…) Ribérac, a few minutes’ stroll away, is your closest place for shops, bars, restaurants and a market to source all the bits; wander to Villetoureix in half an hour if you fancy venturing further.
An on-site bar is open throughout the year for cold drinks and ice creams. For food and shopping, there's a market open every Friday and a car boot sale by the site entrance on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

Local attractions
Once you’ve paddled around locally, it’s worth launching out for a second trip from Brantôme, a gorgeous little riverside town half an hour away by car. Before boarding your vessel, take a wander around the abbey, making sure you don't miss the troglodyte section carved into a cave at the back.
For more swish buildings to stroll around, set out for medieval/Renaissance mash-up Château de Bourdeilles (25 minutes’ drive) or Château-l’Évêque (35 minutes), where the castle is surrounded by well-kept gardens. Périgueux (45 minutes), is a real hive of history too, with Roman, medieval and Renaissance buildings to spot between stops for food (those in the know point to Périgueux as the area’s top place for foodie foraging).
Time for a break from architecture spotting? Trot over to Poltrot leisure park (15 minutes) for a beach, maze and high ropes course, or give your golf clubs an outing on the course 20 minutes away.
