  • Dordogne site a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ribérac
  • Half an hour from Brantôme and 45 minutes from Périgueux
  • Direct access to the Dronne river for fishing; canoe hire close by
La Dronne… bien sûr. That, of course, is the river that flows right past the edge of Camping de la Dronne. And the belle part? That refers to the river too, and to the surrounds in general, for this is a most scenic part of the Dordogne region. That riverside setting and direct access to the water make this family-friendly spot particularly fab for folk who like to fish (although you’re more than welcome simply to snooze in the shade should you wish). Canoes can be hired a few minutes’ walk away if you’d like to see a little more of the river’s stunning scenery; once you’ve had a bit of practice at paddling there’s more to be done half an hour away at Brantôme. Golf, an adventure park, cave explorations and château visits may also be on the agenda for guests here, along with plenty of places to pick at the Périgord’s fab foodie treats (think duck, asparagus, chestnuts, mushrooms, foie gras and mounds of pleasingly pungent cheeses…) Ribérac, a few minutes’ stroll away, is your closest place for shops, bars, restaurants and a market to source all the bits; wander to Villetoureix in half an hour if you fancy venturing further. An on-site bar is open throughout the year for cold drinks and ice creams. For food and shopping, there's a market open every Friday and a car boot sale by the site entrance on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

Local attractions

Once you’ve paddled around locally, it’s worth launching out for a second trip from Brantôme, a gorgeous little riverside town half an hour away by car. Before boarding your vessel, take a wander around the abbey, making sure you don't miss the troglodyte section carved into a cave at the back. For more swish buildings to stroll around, set out for medieval/Renaissance mash-up Château de Bourdeilles (25 minutes’ drive) or Château-l’Évêque (35 minutes), where the castle is surrounded by well-kept gardens. Périgueux (45 minutes), is a real hive of history too, with Roman, medieval and Renaissance buildings to spot between stops for food (those in the know point to Périgueux as the area’s top place for foodie foraging). Time for a break from architecture spotting? Trot over to Poltrot leisure park (15 minutes) for a beach, maze and high ropes course, or give your golf clubs an outing on the course 20 minutes away.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Absolutely loved this site. We had originally booked for 5 nights but stayed an extra night. We were given a choice of pitch on arrival. There was plenty of choice, some individual shady pitches or some in a large well maintained field area. Plenty of room for dog to play. Most of the pitches are on the banks of the river Dronne. Shower block although basic was very clean and showers were lovely and hot. The owner of the site was really pleasant and helpful and spoke quite good English. The town was just a short walk away with plenty of shops and supermarkets. Also a large central market on Fridays. We visited the local vet, who was very helpful and completed our dogs travel documents for our return to the UK.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Its a lovely place, a bit run down, one lovely man trying his best, he took it over just before Covid, so has suffered a lot of hard ship, so please support him if you can, it can be a great site if maintained, but site too big for one man to handle, I would stay here again as the price is right hence four Dots, we needed to rest up for a while, had to find a leak before moving on, and this provided the rest and the time to find leak, and go shopping. the toilets and shower blocks were closed because of season, but there was a little unit with shower, toilet & sink available. all other facility's were there i.e. Power, Water, Chemical and Grey waste.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Good sized hedged pitch with electric hook up and water. Servicing facilities available. We didn't make use of shower or toilet facilities. On the banks of the river Dronne a very pleasant site. Riberac is a nice town with a good sized E Leclerc close by.

Liked: Really nice roomy pitches in trees and by river. Our pitch was right by lovely running water. Showers hot and roomy. Great riverside restaurant near entrance to campsite. Riberac itself a bit run down, but very good Le Clerc supermarket tho. Campsite owner was nice.

Disliked: Guess it good get busy in summer. Not super modern facilties, but had a rustic charm.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Located on river, pitch very pitted and uneven. Site looked very tired but then it is towards the end of the season. Gentleman manning reception is very pleasant and Riberac nearby has reasonable restaurants and shops.

Disliked: Pitch scruffy, facilities tired

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Large, well-defined spaces. It's a nice shady site run by Ludo who seems to run the place single-handedly! Quite a few fishermen just spending they're day with their rod in the water! Pizza van came round in the evening which is to be recommended. Overall, a quiet place, but the town is nothing to write home about. For WiFi, you need to be close to the reception area.
