- Family-run site five minutes' drive from Thiviers in the Périgord
- Half an hour's drive from Château de Puyguilhem and the Villars Cave
- Swimming pool and paddling pool with covered and open areas
Foodies, pack up your stretchiest trews, for the Périgord region overflows with fab food to feast upon. Repair to Camping Le Repaire for your hols and you’ll be just outside the village of Thiviers, which proudly itself to be the area’s capital of foie gras. You can drive down there in five minutes, but you’d be well advised to take the 25-minute walk instead, not only to see some of the gorgeous greenery that’s all around but also to acquire an appetite for all the top-notch titbits on local menus: truffles, confit duck, goat’s cheese, wild mushrooms, garlic soup…
In between all the eats, hike through the local forests, strike out on two wheels on a long bike ride or take a canoe trip from Corgnac sur l’Isle. Or give in to the languid life and roll back up to the site to doze in a deckchair on the sun terrace, perhaps arising every so often for a dip in the pool (an indoor/outdoor number that pretty much ensures suitable swim temperatures whenever you require). Or settle by the fishing lake to see if you can snag any of the carp or roach, while perhaps entertaining the idea of another doze...
Pétanque, table tennis, a games room, pedalo rides, a playground and a library are also on site; there's a snack bar too, as well as a grocery shop and a bar. Of an evening, the bar’s open terrace is the place to be, for cool drinks and events such as live music, kids’ shows and discos. The friendly owners organise barbecues at regular intervals in high season too (ooh, more food – you’ll truly be thankful for those stretchy trews).

Local attractions
If you’re interested in foie gras and its production, head into the Maison de Foie Gras in Thiviers; for other bits of local produce, poke around the market on a Tuesday or Saturday morning. If you’re on a bike, take the trail out of town to Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière, a small town in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park. Those who prefer to explore on horseback can take trips from a riding centre in Lempzours, 20 minutes’ drive from the site.
Take the 10-minute drive (or half-hour cycle) to Corgnac-sur-l’Isle for canoe trips on the Isle river or to ride on the vélorail along the old railway through the woods. On warm days you can also cycle for 10 minutes or so to reach Nantheuil’s lake for some au-naturel swimming.
A cool place to be on a hot day is Villars cave, where you can see splendid stalactites and stalagmites as well as 17,000-year-old prehistoric paintings.
