Anyone fancy a relaxed riverside site by the Dordogne, surrounded by nature and in a topping spot to chill out in highly scenic surroundings? Le Plein Air Neuvicois is a family-friendly place in the Dordogne's Neuvic sur l’Isle, with many an activity on and around the site. Par exemple, you could hire a bike from the site team and take off for pedals along the pretty riverside cycle paths, or canter along on horseback, or play tennis, pétanque or golf, or dive into some watersports, splash in the municipal pool or hurtle down the waterslide… A playground and a TV room is also around for the kids and for relaxed days; evening entertainment is organised by the friendly team in summer, and free wifi is available. The amenities include shower and toilet blocks, a drying room and a launderette. For food, shops, restaurants, a supermarket and a bar are a few minutes' drive away.

Local attractions

If you're the sort who likes small and traditional French villages as well as old buildings and castles (that'll be most people then), the landscape and attractions of this part of the Dordogne will have you sorted. Among the many options are the nearby town of Neuvic and its Château de Neuvic; the village of St Germain du Salembre and another château, and the Dordogne's unofficial capital Perigueux with its medieval and Renaissance city centre. Also have at least a day in Bergerac to Neuvic's south, known (like many places in France and the Dordogne) for its cuisine and wine: a glass or two of Bergerac wine in one or several of the city's cafés and bars is thoroughly recommended. The town's also known for its tobacco, medieval streets, antique fairs, markets and museums: have a look at the tobacco museum and the wine house by the river with its exhibition on wine growing. Deeply recommended nearby too is the fab Rouffignac cave, with over 250 engravings and cave paintings dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period. Take it easy and explore the cave from a comfy position via its small electric train.
