  • Liked:

    Friendly staff
Activities for children and families were fantastic. Our daughter loved the arts and crafts, and although she was too young to do archery, we enjoyed watching the competition.
Perfect for families with young children
Service for ordering bread and pastries

    Disliked:

A good walk (uphill!) to the nearest village, which only has one small shop that doesn't sell much.
No spare bread/pastries for when we forgot to order the day before (clearly there's a limit to how much can be bought in case it's money wasted).
Quite understandably we couldn't use bbqs due to the dry conditions and risk of fire. One big communal bbq was available, but it wasn't easy to light. I like the idea of a communal cooking area, although a better long-term solution could be to use gas/electric as they do in Australia.

Local attractions

Castles, abbeys, vast caves, fortified villages... the Périgord has plenty of places to visit whatever your taste.

The site's proximity to the Dordogne and Vézère valleys gives easy access to most of the area's top attractions: it's north of the famous prehistoric caves; east of the Dordogne and the medieval town of Sarlat; south of Monpazier and many small fortified towns; and west of Bergerac and its many vineyards.

Swimming, canoeing and boat trips on the Dordogne and Vézère rivers can all be accessed close by, and there are dedicated routes for ramblers, mountain bikers or for those who want to explore on horseback. Grottos and cliffs for rock climbers are also nearby, along with golf, archery and forest adventure trails.

Head to the street markets to buy walnuts, prunes, strawberries, foie gras, truffles and mushrooms from the farms surrounding Bergerac.
