Périgord Noir is a fine choice for a holiday, with thick forests, riverside villages and castles. Even finer is a stay at Camping La Grande Veyière, a site in 22 acres of forest between Sarlat-la-Canéda and Bergerac. Just 15 minutes' drive away from canoeing on the river Dordogne, and set above hiking paths, it's suitable for all the family.
The green surroundings are, of course, a highlight. However, there's also lots to be excited about on site, particularly the heated lagoon pool (open in July and August) and the mini farm with donkeys and sheep, where children can feed the animals in the morning. Once they've dusted their hands off, the kids can get stuck into activities at the mini club or run around at one of the on-site play areas.
If you're quite keen on incorporating some sport into your breaks, you should also be pleased to hear that Camping La Grande Veyière has a fine set of facilities of that variety, including a volleyball court, billiards and table football.
Appetites might be high after all of those activities, and thankfully, there's a snack restaurant on site and a mini market, stocked with fresh bread every morning. There are also themed evenings on site, giving you the chance to taste local Périgord specialities and cheese platters.
