Indigo Strasbourg

General

  • 3km from Strasbourg with public transport from the site
  • Fully renovated in 2016
  • Seasonal pool, free motorhome service point and communal central lodge

What a spectacularly pretty city is Strasbourg. And what a spectacularly nifty setting has the Alsace site of Camping Strasbourg, only three kilometres from the famed and historic city centre: public transport to the city centre stops in front of here and there's also direct access to the city cycling route if you'd rather bike it (bike hire is available on site).

Camping Indigo Strasbourg is in the Montagne Verte or Green Mountain district natural urban park of the city. Its reception area has reams of info on the region if you want to venture further after your city sightseeing – although Strasbourg should keep you happily occupied for quite some time…

The site was fully renovated in 2016 and includes a leisure area with seasonal pool, volleyball pitch and pétanque court, all near the new central lodge open throughout the year for relaxing, playing board games, using the free wifi or watching TV. A playground, ping pong tables and table football are also on site to keep the kids amused, and if anyone needs the internet, a self-service computer is at reception.

A bar and restaurant with a covered terrace and dining room is open in summer for grills, homemade pizza and salad among its varied menu; you can also order bread and pastries in high season.

Also available for guests is a motorhome service area at the Camping Strasbourg entrance, to use free of charge.

Proximity to town, we cycled in and around Strasbourg with relative ease, although busy in places. You do have to weigh up the closeness to town with the downside of lots of sirens and church bells throughout the night. Also proximity to local Lidl store, cycled in a couple of minutes. The site was clean and the toilet/shower blocks warm and clean.

    Disliked:

Having to drive back out of the site after not being able to find the water fill and asking at reception. It would have been nice to have been told on arrival where the motor home service point was as it is just at the entrance and needs a token (free)

Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff and level pitches 23/09/2018

We stayed at Camping Strasbourg for four nights in August 2018 and have to say what a superb campsite. The whole site was clean and tidy, the slower and toilet blocks were spotlessly clean and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The onsite facilities include a swimming pool (always popular) bike hire if needed and a very good restaurant.
With a short walk to the tram stop and ten minutes later you are in the centre of Strasbourg with a river cruise and a tour around the EU building highly recommended.
We will certainly be stopping there for longer in the future.

The pool was nice and warm. The site was a good base to see Strasbourg as public transport is nearby. The camping plots are a little but close together but we do have a massive tent. Toilets were nearby. We had a nice stay.

    Disliked:

only on place on entire site to get water for a motor home which was out with the gates and busy. The toilet and shower provision was a bit lacking and for a very busy campsite which was full when we were there to be cleaned only once a day wasn’t adequate. We had to force the kids to shower as a certain points of the day they weren’t pleasant.

This site is great site to see Strasbourg, the site is well maintained with excellent facilitates. There was ample room on the pitch but can be a slight challenge to get a large vehicle in. There was plenty of action on the site. swimming pool was well looked after and reception very helpful. Excellent access to the town via cycle paths although takes a bit of work working out which way to go as the sign posting can be a little ambiguous but we found the general condition good. On busy days in Strasbourg can be difficult to lock up bikes as the bike sites are full.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike but to be aware this is a large site with children, dogs and groups staying so if you want quiet then you may find it a bit busy.

Local attractions

Camping Strasbourg is three kilometres from the historic centre of Strasbourg and excellently set for exploring the city on foot or by bike. The site has direct access to the city cycling route, and public transport to town stops in front of its entrance.

Strasbourg calls itself the Christmas capital, as it's home to the oldest Christmas market in Europe (dating back to 1570), with extensive Christmas decorations and lighting, along with stalls of all flavours, mulled wine, the giant Christmas tree in Place Kléber, and the market's famed Christmas Bredele biscuits.

Other areas to explore are the historic centre and the district of Petite France with its half-timbered houses and narrow streets, Notre-Dame Cathedral in the Old Town for spectacular views over the city, Place du Château, the Palais Rohan, Place Gutenberg, central square Place Kléber and the Place du Marché-aux-Cochons-de-Lait.

Tours are available of Strasbourg's Palace of Europe, the seat of the Council of Europe.
