If you’d care to combine proximity to Prague attractions and surrounding yourself with greenery, how about staying in one of the first geodesic domes in the Czech Republic? At Skyhomes Bubble Hotel, 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre, you can fall asleep with the sunset or views of the stars twinkling above your head, and wake up again to sunlight filtering in through the glass walls.
The dome is set in a leafy private garden, where no-one can see you or interfere with your R&R. Children and dogs are welcome, and your really rather luxurious accommodation comprises a double bed (all linens supplied) in a secondary dome, a comfortable living space with a huge sofa and cosy rugs, plus all the essentials needed for self-catering meals.
Breakfast is included in the package, and outside there are quiet nooks and crannies in the garden where you can cook up a barbecue meal, sip a drink together or just contemplate your good luck in finding this place. If you’re not an alfresco cooking fan, you don’t have to go far to find the answer – traditional Czech pubs, pizzerias and cosy cafés are within about five minutes walk in Přední Kopanina. It’s an easy five minutes by car from the airport too, and there are public transport options nearby for the city centre.

Local attractions
Přední Kopanina is a quiet Prague suburb with a rural atmosphere, but it only takes 20 minutes’ drive/40 minutes by public transport to find yourself among the churches, spires and museums of the baroque-era New Town and all the statuary on Charles Bridge. You can also climb to the top of the Astronomical Clock Tower, or explore the history and natural science artefacts at the National Museum.
If you’d rather get your cultural fix closer to home, you can walk in under five minutes to the Romanesque church of St Mary Magdalene. For a change of pace, if you have young kids with you, you may like to take them to Majaland Praha (also five minutes’ on foot), a soft-play centre with rollercoasters, dodgem cars and slides.
In the vicinity you can exercise yourselves (and any dogs you've brought, of course) biking or hiking on nature trails; one of the most spectacular leads through the untamed valley of Divoká Šárka (10 minutes), where you can pick your way around bizarre rock formations, go wild swimming in the pristine lake or picnic with views of Prague on the horizon.
