  • Family-friendly seaside site in the north-east of Croatia’s Krk island
  • 10-minute walk from Soline bay’s therapeutic mud baths
  • Beach bar, restaurant, pool, gym and grocery shop all on site
At Camping Slamni, the most pressing question is: beach or pool today? The family site is based on the seashore and makes a great base for a healthy holiday in the northeastern part of the island of Krk. Firstly, it is in the bay of Soline, which is known for its healing mud; some claim this helps with treating skin and rheumatic diseases. The protected bay has shallow, warm waters, which is just the thing for swimming and other sea activities. Secondly, it's also 10 minutes’ drive from Dobrinj. The setup should suit the whole gang. The outdoor pool and playground are right next to the beach bar, so nippers can do their thing while the grownups – coffee (or cocktail) in hand – keep a watchful eye over them from the comfort of the bar’s seating area (which comes with pretty sea views, too). The site also rents out sun loungers and parasols for lengthy lazing times on the beach. If you need a bit of fuel for those gruelling paddling/lounging sessions, the on-site restaurant dishes up seasonal local goodies, and there’s also a shop selling basic groceries, newspapers and handy holiday bits. Holidays and overindulging go hand-in-hand, so should you feel the need to burn a few calories, hit the gym or (for something slightly less muscle pumping) opt for a game of boccia on the court next to the beach bar. This place has entertainment covered, too, with an activity programme for the youngsters and evening shenanigans including folk events and a cappella singing.

Local attractions

Where there’s sea, there are also seaside towns. A good one to explore is Vrbnik (20 minutes' drive), with its pretty coastal views and labyrinth of narrow streets. For further scenic strolls, consider a wander around Klimno marina (a few minutes’ walk from base), or roam around the Biserujka cave (15 minutes’ drive). If you’re in the mood for some sightseeing, make your way to the south-west coast of the island for Krk’s Cathedral and the Frankopan Castle (half an hour). Or head to the tiny island of Košljun to see the Franciscan monastery (taxi boats leave from Punat harbour, half an hour away).
