- Small and family-friendly Istrian Peninsula site with a private beach
- Kamenjak National Park 10 minutes’ drive and historic Pula 20 minutes
- Bar and restaurant; sports facilities and exercise classes; boat hire
One of the first tourist sites in Istria’s village of Premantura, Kranjski Kamp opened in 1963. Recently, new owners took over the property and have begun to renovate it to meet the expectations of travellers in the 2020s – all while maintaining its family-friendly and homely atmosphere.
The communal shower facilities and sports amenities have been modernised, and the grounds landscaped with new stands of trees and ornamental plants. The access road is now paved, and new camping pitches overlook the Adriatic Sea.
What else is new? A day bar/restaurant overlooks the beach, specialising in local seafood, Thai cuisine, salads and pizzas… there’s also a tempting cocktail happy hour every afternoon and occasional entertainment at the weekend. There are kids’ workshops and a playground close to the bar, so parents can keep an eye on offspring while having a restorative coffee on the terrace.
Sporting activities include basketball, football and ping pong; you can also join yoga and Pilates sessions. The site’s private beach is a pleasant mix of sandy and rocky, and provides plenty of shade on hot summer afternoons. From there, you can hire paddleboards or kayaks, and take out motor boats to explore Cape Kamenjak.

Local attractions
Kamenjak National Park (10 minutes’ drive) sits on the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula. It’s a region of turquoise bays and hidden coves swathed in Mediterranean maquis, where you can flop on golden beaches, go snorkelling, cycle the length of the promontory or treat yourselves to a sunset supper in the famed Safari Bar (15 minutes).
The spectacular Brijuni archipelago is another protected park sitting in the Adriatic off the west coast; you can get to Veliki Brijun (the largest island) by boat from Fažana (half an hour). Once there, spot elephants and zebras at the safari park, tour the remains of a Roman villa in Verige Bay and check out the permanent exhibition dedicated to Marshall Tito, who had a holiday house on the island.
Back on the mainland, the historic and elegant town of Pula (20 minutes) is definitely worth a visit to see its colossal, well-preserved 1st-century amphitheatre, the colonnaded Temple of Augustus and ornate City Hall Building standing proudly on the Forum Square – the latter is just the spot for a chilled glass of Istrian white wine in a pavement café.
