  • Woodland site a 10-minute drive from Poreč on the Adriatic Sea
  • A 10-min drive to Trg Marafor Roman forum and Aquacolors waterpark
  • Bar and wifi on site; 40 minutes’ drive to the Slovenian border
Travelling around Istria on two wheels? As the name might suggest, Bikers Camp is a site well set up for those cycling around Croatia or making their way around by motorbike – although there’s no less of a warm welcome for folk who favour four wheels… However you choose to roam, a huge 8,000 square metres of woodland wait at this relaxed place 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside town of Poreč. All those trees means, of course, plenty of shade to cool off in, and the owners have made it a comfy place to relax by putting in outdoor seating and firepit areas. There are toilets and showers on site too, and thirsty travellers will no doubt be pleased to see that there’s also a bar stocked with cool beers to raise a toast to the day’s successful journeys. If you’re sticking around for a while, outings might include days of waterparks or wakeboarding, exploring the former Roman colony of Poreč or boarding a boat to the pine forests and beaches on Sveti Nikola island. And if you’re moving swiftly on? It’s about a 40-minute drive to the Slovenian border.

Local attractions

Start local explores by scooting over to the seaside town of Poreč (10 minutes’ drive), where the Old Town is packed full of gothic and baroque buildings and the coast is lined with well-equipped beaches. Games of tennis, miniature golf and beach volleyball can all be had at the town’s beaches and there are plenty of watersports facilities including the Ski Lift Poreč for wakeboarding. Poreč is also a bit of a party town, with plenty of open-air bars and festivals going on (the Jazz in Lapidarium summer festival is one of its big draws). Fuzzy heads from any such indulgences can be washed away at Aquacolors – Croatia’s biggest waterpark is 10 minutes’ drive away and has 13 slides, two sizeable pools and half a kilometre of lazy river to float down. Not into the party scene? Aim for the sixth-century Byzantine Euphrasian Basilica, the elegant Zuccato Palace or the ancient Trg Marafor forum (all 15 minutes) for a bit of culture, or get the five-minute shuttle boat from Poreč harbour to the island of Sveti Nikola for strolls through the forest and picnics on the beach.
