‘Pineta’ means pine grove in Italian, and Camping Pineta (not in Italy, but just across the water, in Croatia) can certainly own that name, immersed as it is in a forest of… you guessed it – pines. And just beyond the trees: a lawn, a pebbly beach and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. This well-equipped site on the Istrian Peninsula sits about 12 kilometres north of Pula (20 minutes’ drive), between the towns of Fažana and Peroj (five minutes to either). You can set up in the shade of the trees or closer to the beach if you want the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep at night. Then all you have to do is kick back and do as little (or as much) as you like. Some might claim a patch of beach as their own for the duration of their holiday, swimming or perhaps having a go at windsurfing (there’s a school in Fažana). More active types might hire a bike (on site) and explore the local area, cycling past fields and olive groves to places like Vodnjan (20 minutes by bike, or 10 minutes by car), with its Venetian architecture and the Kažun Park open-air museum. Back at the site, leave the kids to make new friends in the playground or the games room while you fire up the grill (an on-site shop sells local produce). This area is renowned for its fish and seafood, so you might also want to treat yourself to a dinner of local specialities at the on-site restaurant.

Liked Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen.
Unser Platz war relativ gross und schon schattig.

Disliked Die WC Anlagen dürften etwas besser gepflegt werden.

Wir werden trotzdem gerne nochmal dort Urlaub machen.

Liked Der Platz an sich war super. Wir waren im Wald, da hatten wir wenigstens Schatten. Die Toiletten Anlagen und Duschen waren sauber. Das ganze Personal war sehr freundlich. Auch hat man sich mit ihnen gut verständigen können. Wir hatten ein Kühlschrank gemietet, das ist zwar untergegangen aber man hat sich sofort darum gekümmert das wir dann am nächsten Tag ein Fach hatten. Preis war auch super. Für den kleinen Geldbeutel war es ein toller Urlaub.

Disliked Autos, Fahrräder und e-scooter waren einfach zu schnell unterwegs. Da sind 20 km/h erlaubt aber das ist zu schnell für die engen Wege. Das am Strand Autos gefahren sind war jetzt auch nicht so der Hit.
Es gibt da keine mittagsruhe. Da man erst um 12 Uhr ein checken darf ist am Mittag zu viel aufruhe und Lärm. Wenn man kleine kinder im mittagschlaf hat ist das nicht so toll.
Kindertoiletten und ein wickeltisch in jeden Toiletten Häuschen wäre toll und nicht nur in einem.

Local attractions

Kažun Park (10 minutes’ drive) is an open-air museum celebrating the kažun, a circular dry-stone building with a conical roof. The park shows different stages of the construction of these structures, which were used as shelter or storage by Istrian farmers in the 18th and 19th centuries. From the fishing town of Fažana it’s possible to catch a ferry and sail to the Brijuni Islands National Park (a 15-minute boat ride). Highlights of this small archipelago of vegetation-covered islands include a safari park and the ruins of a Byzantine settlement and a Roman villa – all on Veliki Brijun (the largest island). More Roman-era heritage awaits in Pula (20 minutes’ drive), including the Temple of Augustus, with its slender columns, and a spectacular floor mosaic portraying a mythical scene. The Pula Arena is a remarkably well-preserved amphitheatre that today hosts music concerts, festivals and gladiatorial re-enactments.
