‘Pineta’ means pine grove in Italian, and Camping Pineta (not in Italy, but just across the water, in Croatia) can certainly own that name, immersed as it is in a forest of… you guessed it – pines. And just beyond the trees: a lawn, a pebbly beach and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. This well-equipped site on the Istrian Peninsula sits about 12 kilometres north of Pula (20 minutes’ drive), between the towns of Fažana and Peroj (five minutes to either). You can set up in the shade of the trees or closer to the beach if you want the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep at night. Then all you have to do is kick back and do as little (or as much) as you like. Some might claim a patch of beach as their own for the duration of their holiday, swimming or perhaps having a go at windsurfing (there’s a school in Fažana). More active types might hire a bike (on site) and explore the local area, cycling past fields and olive groves to places like Vodnjan (20 minutes by bike, or 10 minutes by car), with its Venetian architecture and the Kažun Park open-air museum. Back at the site, leave the kids to make new friends in the playground or the games room while you fire up the grill (an on-site shop sells local produce). This area is renowned for its fish and seafood, so you might also want to treat yourself to a dinner of local specialities at the on-site restaurant.

Liked Location next to the sea was excellent and the toilet and shower blocks were kept clean throughout in a very busy August. Plenty of hot powerful showers.

Disliked We were placed in a spot without shade so asked to move to free camping area. The whole site is an ants nest! Left a day early. Be warned that the site will add a lot of extras onto your bill that aren’t listed on pitchup (such as registration fee) and you pay at the end of your stay. Never experienced this with a pitch up site before so disappointed.

Liked Veškeré vybavení , obchůdek , prádelna, toalety a sprchy, restaurace. Kempování na obrovské přidělené ploše ( velikost jako 3+1 byt ), na které je el. + pitná voda

Disliked Hodně slabá wifi, pokud bydlíte dál od recepce. Chybí nějaký gym, alespoň bradla kdyby byly.

Liked Really nice camp, next to the sea, have water and electricity to connect to and many trees that give shade.

Disliked One star in a minus, because there was a storm and some things went flying inside camp damaging my tent and car.
Camp is not liable for these damages, but as locals they should know storm is comming and could alarm people to hide things that can fly because storm is comming beforehand.

Local attractions

Kažun Park (10 minutes’ drive) is an open-air museum celebrating the kažun, a circular dry-stone building with a conical roof. The park shows different stages of the construction of these structures, which were used as shelter or storage by Istrian farmers in the 18th and 19th centuries. From the fishing town of Fažana it’s possible to catch a ferry and sail to the Brijuni Islands National Park (a 15-minute boat ride). Highlights of this small archipelago of vegetation-covered islands include a safari park and the ruins of a Byzantine settlement and a Roman villa – all on Veliki Brijun (the largest island). More Roman-era heritage awaits in Pula (20 minutes’ drive), including the Temple of Augustus, with its slender columns, and a spectacular floor mosaic portraying a mythical scene. The Pula Arena is a remarkably well-preserved amphitheatre that today hosts music concerts, festivals and gladiatorial re-enactments.
