  • Within two kilometres of the award-winning beach at Zaton
  • A short drive from the nightlife and history of spectacular Zadar
  • Two large outdoor pools, with sun loungers and pizza bar alongside
Cast your eyes on that pool. And that blue sky. And, although it's not viewable from the above pics, a stay at Camping Peros will also place you within two kilometres of the spectacular award-winning Dalmatian Coast beach of Zaton, where one can waterslide, swim, scuba dive, jetski and snorkel to one's heart's content. But you'd best book for as much time as you can prise from the boss. For here you'll also be four kilometres from the medicinal muds of Nin, and a 14-kilometre drive from the Roman and Venetian ruins of the spectacular city of Zadar, the oldest continually-inhabited settlement in all of Croatia (nicknamed these days as the entertainment centre of the Adriatic for its lively vibe, and named in 2016 as the top destination in Europe in a vote of almosr 300,000 souls). Camping Peros is set with sand and gravel beaches and clear waters on one side and forests, lakes and mountains on the other. Leisure on site is sorted with two excellent-looking and well-maintained pools, with loads of space beside for sunbathing, and eats and drinks at the pizza bar, cleverly placed beside the pool so one can secure a cocktail or snack to have on one's sun lounger. Massages and treatments are also offered at this peaceful site: ask for details when you arrive.

Local attractions

The Camping Peros team can arrange excursions to the national parks within easy reach – Kornati, Krka, Paklenica and Plitivis; to to Modric Cave, and to the nature park of Lake Vrana. Boat and yacht hire can also be organised for guests. The coastal town and award-winning beach of Zaton is within a couple of kilometres; the sands of Queen' beach within four, and the town of Nin within five, the ancient Croatian cultural centre where seven kings were crowned. The medicinal muds (polaid) of Nin have been used to treat human ailments since Roman times: wallow in them near Queen's beach before basking on the sands to dry your muddy coat, then plunging in the sea to wash it all off. Once clean, plan to have at least a couple of days in Zadar, fast becoming a top Croatian and Dalmatian Coast travel destination. Which sights to hone in on will depend on individual taste, but among the best known are the Roman Forum, founded by the emperor Augustus; the round and ninth-century Church of St. Donatus and its collection of metalwork, and the 15th-century citadel, preserved almost exactly the same as it once was. A must in Zadar is listening to the spectacular Sea Organ on the Old Town’s waterfront – making sure you have a dance at the Sun Salutation afterwards.
