Camp Lu-Ka

As well as watersports rentals along the seafront promenade, Pakoštane is springboard to the island archipelago of Kornati National Park, where you can swim and snorkel in pristine waters; day trips depart from the marina (10 minutes’ walk) and you may be lucky enough to spot dolphins on your cruise. With peaceful mountain views, freshwater Lake Vrana (five minutes) is circumnavigated by a bike path. Several bird hides are found on boardwalks around its shores so you can watch grebes, coots and other wading birds feeding. The lake is also a popular spot for carp and pike fishing, but you’ll need to hire a small boat or kayak and stay away from the shoreline to protect the birds. When the kids need a bit of action, head for Dalmaland theme park (five minutes’ drive) for some fun on the rollercoasters and water rides. Everyone will also enjoy the chance to swim in the pool at the foot of the spectacular waterfalls in Krka National Park (40 minutes).
