  • Beachfront eco-resort on the south coast of Hvar
  • By a wild beach half an hour's drive from Stari Grad and Vrboska
  • Yoga, massages, bike hire, watersports and fishing available on site
Hankering after a proper hideaway? Head to the south coast of Hvar, near the pretty village of Gromin Dolac, to find Cast Away, an eco-friendly seafront resort where the little huts sit right on the seafront at a wild beach – a gorgeous little spot in which to unwind for a while. Well away from the tourist crowds of Hvar town, this is a place where you can let the sound of the waves lull you to sleep and spend your days hanging out in a hammock while taking in the views. You’ll have those views from your hut too – each one has been positioned to make the most of this splendid scenery. In keeping with the ‘desert island’ vibe of this site, the huts here are fairly simple in style, with just the sleeping space inside. There are plenty of shared amenities close by though, including barbecue and firepit areas and a kitchen with cooker, coffee maker, toaster and other appliances. There are no shops in the vicinity though, so you’ll need to come stocked up with groceries for your stay. There is, however, a beach bar on site for snacks and cool drinks. Getting here is part of the adventure – it’s a remote spot and many people find it easiest to use the site’s own shuttle services (either the free service or a paid private shuttle). Once installed, you can hire bikes or head out on foot to find the nearby beaches. Climbing, fishing, kayaking and snorkelling are also available – or you may choose simply to stay on site for a relaxing massage or a yoga session…

Route directions

Pickups can be arranged from Stari Grad Ferry Port (at the entrance of Tommy's supermarket) at 11.30am each day – the shuttle is free and takes a maximum of eight people. If you come from Split: Take the car ferry to Starigrad at 8.30am (NOT to Hvar town!). You will arrive in the ferry port of Starigrad at 10:30am. If you come from Hvar town: Take the bus at 9:45am (low season) or 10:30am (high season) to Starigrad ferry port (not the town centre). It takes 20 minutes. Morning Drop-offs are at Stari Grad Ferry Port: 10:45 - 11.00 AM →The car ferry to Split leaves at 11.30AM →The bus to Hvar leaves at 14:30 (low season) or 11:50 (high season) from Starigrad town centre. It's also possible to arrange private shuttles if you prefer. Driving: Once you've passed Gromindolac after 3km on the dirt road coming from Zavala, keep an eye out for a yellow house with green shutters, 300m away on your left hand side (number 30B). About 30 metres past that, you'll find the site's private car park (May-Oct) or just park somewhere along the road. Continue your journey by foot from there and follow that same road down until you see the sign “Beach - Bar/Resort” Take that little pathway down to the beach and you'll find the site right on top of the beach.
