Got your hiking gear and cycle at the ready? You’re off to Le Hameau de l'Ourthe, on the outskirts of historic Houffalize in the Belgian Ardennes. The region is something of a paradise for mountain bikers, and also offers challenging hiking amid the valleys and plateaux of the Deux Ourthes Natural Park. Family-friendly and with lots of riverside walks for any canines you bring along for the ride, the campsite has grass pitches overlooking the River Ourthe. When you’re not out in the Ardennes hills conquering steep climbs, there’s lots for kids to do on site, from fishing in the river and taking a dip in refreshing waters to having a run around on the playing field. Parents can keep an eye on their offspring from the covered snack bar right next to the play area; eat in or order a takeaway according to your preference. Barbecues are also permitted on site if you fancy giving alfresco cooking a go. The boulangeries and grocery stores of Houffalize (15 minutes’ walk) will supply most things you need, and there’s a fortnightly public market selling quality local produce if you need any further top ups.

Liked Locatie ok.

Disliked Sanitair was zeer vuil. Er werd niet gekuist. Douche was smerig, afloop in douchebak hing vol haar, spinnenwebben in douchecel en vloer in het sanitair heeft gedurende 5 dagen geen water gezien. Water van de douche eerste dagen ijskoud bij de vrouwen, kokend water bij de mannen. De afwasbakken werden niet gereinigd, afwasbakken lagen met vuil papier, etensresten …… de vloer lag er smerig bij met afval, bladeren, houtsnippers enz. Zelfs niet eenmaal uitgeborsteld. Volgens man op de receptie was de poetsvrouw ziek.
Op het terrein werden de vuilbakken welke uitpuilden niet geledigd. Bediening in het restaurant was tegen de goesting.
Geen waterpunten op het terrein.

De aangetroffen situatie in het sanitair, de afwasruimtes en rondom de voorzieningen strookt op geen enkele manier met de kwaliteit en hygiëne die wij nastreven. Hoewel er sprake was van interne bezettingsproblemen, mag dit uiteraard nooit ten koste gaan van uw verblijf en de service die u van ons gewend bent. Uw opmerkingen over de faciliteiten en de bediening nemen we uiterst serieus en pakken we direct intern op.

Wij betreuren het ten zeerste dat uw verblijf niet aan de verwachtingen heeft voldaan, en hopen u in de toekomst alsnog te mogen verwelkomen om u de juiste ervaring te bieden.

Liked De algehele ligging en camping, prachtig aangelegd. Centrum prima lopend te doen!

Disliked Met het sanitair, het zag er prachtig uit, de douches en toiletten, wij hebben er 3 nachten gestaan en viel me op dat er geen 1x was schoon gemaakt. Dezelfde haren, papier en urine geur. Dat vond ik heel jammer..

Daarnaast willen wij onze oprechte excuses aanbieden voor de staat waarin u het sanitair heeft aangetroffen tijdens uw verblijf. Onze sanitaire voorzieningen worden normaal gesproken tweemaal per dag grondig gereinigd, en het is teleurstellend om te lezen dat dit in uw geval niet zo is ervaren. Dit voldoet niet aan de hygiënenormen die wij hanteren.

Wij hebben dit direct intern besproken met ons team om te waarborgen dat onze schoonmaakfrequentie en -kwaliteit scherp worden nageleefd.

Liked Fantastic location for cycling and walking, great little town for restaurants and a supermarket, new toilet/shower/washing up block, spacious pitches, small river runs through the site

Disliked Pitches were looking tired, Wi-Fi only by the bar, site is being redeveloped over the winter with lots of permanent lodges so touring pitches will only be by the road from next year

When you’ve had your fill of family cycle rides or steep mountain bike climbs in the hills and valleys around Houffalize, there’s a whole bunch of hiking options on forest trails and rugged cliff paths in the Deux Ourthes Natural Park to keep you on your toes. If younger kids need more gentle physical activity, encourage them to tackle the rope courses, climbing frames and slides at Houtopia, Univers de Sens (15 minutes’ walk), where they can also have a go at interactive science games. Alpacas and shaggy Highland cows steal the show at the Ferme de la Planche (10 minutes’ drive), which also has an entertaining barefoot sensory walk through the Ardennes countryside (clue: mud may be involved). Teens may prefer the zipwires and escape rooms at Adventure Valley Durbuy (45 minutes). Anyone interested in World War II history can see uniforms, weapons and military vehicles at the Bulge Relics Museum (10 minutes), and pay their respects at the Battle of the Bulge Monument in Vielsalm (half an hour).
