  • On the banks of the Yea River 110 kilometres from Melbourne
  • A few kilometres from the old gold mining town of Yea
  • Outdoor pool, TV room and swishly modern amenities in a scenic setting
Oh yeah. What a spectacular setting you'll be arriving into at Yea Riverside Caravan Park: on the banks of the Yea River, within easy reach of the Great Victorian Rail Trail – and an hour and a half from the sights, sports and events of marvellous Melbourne. The park is a few kilometres from the old gold mining town of Yea, where those into their Aussie history can take the Yea Heritage Walk, potter much further back in time at the Yea Flora Fossil Site, or have lunch, dinner or tea on a horse-drawn tram. Those not particularly into history have the Yea Wetlands and their discovery centre to ramble around, fishing and watersports to delve into, and skiing at Mount Buller an hour and 40 minutes' drive to the east (this last an essential pastime for non-Aussie types, for the bragging rights of 'going skiing in Australia'). Yea is a lush, modern and colourful resort (time to look at the pics), with leisurely options including dips in the outdoor pool, lazy indoor times in the TV room, and space aplenty for roaming and idling; there are excellent amenities here too including swishly modern bathrooms, disabled facilities and a launderette among more. Business guests looking for a temporary and cosy home are most welcome at Yea, as well as holidaying guests sensibly settling down for a spell in this lush and peaceful part of Victoria.

Local attractions

Wander into town to shop for supplies or antiques, or to amble along some or all of the 27 stops on the Yea Heritage Walk; info on this and other local highlights is at the information centre at the old Gothic-style railway station. A must in Yea is the Yea Wetlands, made up of natural bush and river plain wetlands on a former floodplain: walk from the High Street and down the Franklin Track across the cable suspension bridge to spy wildlife including platypuses, koalas, wallabies, kingfishers and bell miner honeybirds, or take a guided walk from the Y Water Discovery Centre to hear more about the nature here and the history of the wetlands including their use by indigenous tribes. The wetland's frog pond is home to several frog species as well as coloured damselflies. The Cheviot Rail Tunnel on the Great Victorian Rail Trail is 15 minutes' drive from the caravan park, towards the town of Molesworth.
