  • Outdoor pool, bar and restaurant and communal spaces on site
For a holiday that you’ll likely be talking about for a long time to come, head along to Berat Caravan Camping in Southern Albania. It’s just a 20-minute drive away from the riverside city of Berat, home to white Ottoman houses, a hilltop castle, the Red Mosque ruins and Byzantine churches. Your camera roll may not only be full of those city scenes, but also the times back on site. Snap a photo of the family at the outdoor pool with sunnies on, your other half cradling a glass of local wine over a traditional meal at the on-site bar and restaurant or all of the different angles of the Albanian countryside, which stretches out in all directions around the site. As well as having a peaceful atmosphere and the museum-packed city such a short drive away, Berat Caravan Camping is next door to a small winery where you can sip on local white, red and sparkling wines. A supermarket is a 10-minute walk away down the road, not far from a small collection of local restaurants. Add to all this clean, well-maintained on-site amenities including toilets and showers, plus communal spaces with outdoor tables, and you should be all sorted for your Berat getaway. No wonder guests from all over Europe cross paths here.

Local attractions

Berat Caravan Camping is in a rural area of Albania that's known for its vineyards; a belly full of Albanian red, white or sparkling can be expected after a trip to one of the local wineries (within walking distance). You’re also in pole position for days out in Berat (20 minutes’ drive). Don a pair of trainers or hiking boots (anything with a good sole, really) and climb up to Berat Castle, set on a hill above the city. It was built back in the 13th century mostly, but it is now home to many townspeople, as well as churches and the Onufri National Iconographic Museum, which is decked out with Byzantine art. Grab a bite to eat down in the Old Town once you're all done browsing the art and ruins, but don’t get so preoccupied that you forget about taking a stroll along the Ottoman-style arched stone bridge between the two sides of the city, or miss out on the city’s museums.
