An immaculately maintained lawn with expansive mountain views in the distance: not too shabby a location to spend your holiday, right? And that’s exactly what awaits at Camping Freskia. This peaceful, family-friendly site in northern Albania’s Shkodër County is in Theth National Park – and boy, does it deliver the wow factor when it comes to setting and scenery. You can step out of your accommodation in the morning to be greeted by glorious views of the forested slopes and rugged peaks of the Albanian Alps, and the Lumi i Thethit river below. Before a day of hiking, you can fortify yourself with a traditional breakfast at the restaurant, which also serves a range of meals at dinnertime. You’ll probably be grateful for the on-site catering, for this spot is pretty isolated: Theth, the nearest village, is 20 minutes’ drive away on the rather gnarly SH21 road, with its hairpin turns and unpaved stretches (although there are also a couple of restaurants within a 20-minute drive). And there is lots more to be grateful for here, including a toilet block, hot-water showers (including disabled facilities), drinkable water, a launderette and a washing-up area, not to mention friendly owners who are on hand to provide information on the local sights. Barbecues are supplied, and a small shop on site sells local produce, so you and your family (and your dog, who is welcome here) can settle down for an evening of grilling, relaxing and taking in the spectacle of the night sky.

Liked Schöner Platz mit bester Aussicht.
Toiletten ok.

Disliked Duschen kaum warmes Wasser. Strom fällt sehr oft aus. Strom wenn er funktioniert auch eher schwach. Wie kann das sein?
Betreiber mit unzuverlässigen Infos bezgl Wanderwegen. Es gibt kaum bis gar keine Wanderwege! Alles nur Straße entlang wo viele Albaner fahren als wären sie bei der Formel 1 nur definitiv nicht so gut! Essen OK - nichts weltbewegendes.

Liked Het fantastische uitzicht en de bar / restaurant op de camping voor een koel drankje of een maaltijd.
En met de relaxte sfeer, ook bij de eigenaarsfamilie.

Disliked Het sanitair. Nauwelijks warm water gehad in de douche.
En het wifi ontvangst wat eigenlijk alleen bij het restaurant.

Liked We liked our stay at Camping Freskia, which was simple but sufficient. The family behind this truly has a heart of being good for their campers. They are warm welcoming and try to meet all your needs - the ones you ask for and the ones they see you need ;) (other campers in their little tent with few campinggear got offered warm blankets for the upcoming colder night). The facilities are a bit older, but got cleaned every day. They cooked heavenly! The place offers everything you need to get a rest after an active day.

Disliked Within the Albanian standard they offer fine facilities, but within the standards (Western) Europe is more used to - the facilities could be better arranged. Toilets seperated from showers and better shower heads. Sometimes the water isn't warm because when electricity is down the water could not be heated. Their extra power supply is superb!

Liked The views were amazing. Facilites were good. People were lovely. Amazing stay for the area!

Disliked It would be good to have a few more options for dinner for those staying longer than one night BUT the dinner was so good so it’s not really that big a problem!

Disliked Unstable power, sometimes sockets are dead hence no hot water if it was used up. Toilets could be better maintained.

Local attractions

You’ll be in the middle of Theth National Park here, so get exploring those mountains covered with oak and beech forests. Although brown bears and grey wolves live in these woods, you’re much more likely to come across roe deer and wild goats during your hikes. You might also catch a glimpse of a swooping golden eagle. Across the river, dwarfed by the dramatic mountainous landscape, is the pretty 19th-century church of Kisha e Thethit (15 minutes’ drive), with its typically alpine architecture of stone walls and sloping wooden roofs. A short stroll further south takes you to the Reconciliation Tower, where disputes among villagers were once settled. This area is also known for its many cascades, including the dramatic Grunas waterfall (20 minutes), with water falling down a sheer rock face from a height of 25m into a boulder-dotted pond where you can have a swim – if you can brave the rather chilly temperature, that is.
