Tucked into the forested hills of Mirditë in northern Albania, Camping Baven-Toven Naturae is a place that’s all about peaceful farm stays in spectacular countryside – and in a handy location about an hour’s drive north of Tirana (and its airport). Spacious pitches are partially shaded by trees and suit adventurous travellers looking for a no-fuss, back-to-nature stay.
Facilities include a shared bathroom with showers, a washing machine and a small communal kitchen that’s got space for cooking and shared fridges to stash your food in. Unlimited drinking water – sourced from the mountains – is also available.
Picnic benches and barbecue stations are dotted around the property and its lush gardens, and the site is a springboard to peaceful walks and adventurous hiking in the scenic Albanian countryside.
Open 24/7, the swimming pool is filled with spring water replenished daily. Please supervise your kids and make sure the safety gate is always closed. Running around the pool and diving are prohibited for safety reasons.

Local attractions
There are lots of hiking routes directly from the pitches, but you can also test your fitness levels on scenic routes in the mountain foothills. The Suka e Lepurit hiking area (35 minutes’ drive) follows forested valleys, and there are many more hiking options among the wetlands and waterways of Kune-Vain-Tale Reserve (45 minutes).
Ulza Regional Nature Park (45 minutes) is a natural wonderland of lakes, forests and mountains, where you can also go kayaking, fishing and birdwatching for migrating waders. If a day at the beach appeals, there are a few beach bars at sandy Tale Beach (40 minutes), which is also popular for watching the sunset.
For a dose of cultural heritage, you can be at the Rubik Church – the oldest in the Balkans – in 50 minutes’ stroll, or jump in the car to explore the ethnographic museum and ruined mosque at Kruja Castle (an hour’s drive). Wrap up your sightseeing by tasting the anise-flavoured raki produced at Kantina Arbëri (20 minutes).
