  • Scenic, secluded adults-only site close to the Powys/Shropshire border
  • Vyrnwy Lake and Pistyll Rhaeadr within a half-hour drive
  • Next to the River Cain for fishing; kitchen and firepits on site
Ahhh, Powys. It’s got a lot going for it – being in the scenic wilds of Wales yet so close to England’s stunning county of Shropshire. But what it’s also fab for? Tipis at Ponty, an adults-only site on a pretty six-acre smallholding by the border between two nations. Access to attractions and activities aside, this park’s immediate location is worth the visit alone: it’s flanked by a three-acre paddock and the banks of the River Cain, where you’re welcome to fish or just settle in and admire the gorgeous views up the valley. Seating and firepits are provided, so there’s always a comfy, warm spot out in the open air, and to keep the peaceful vibe intact it’s a vehicle-free site with wheelbarrows supplied to help you cart your kit around the place. Well-behaved dogs are allowed to come along for your break too. All in all, the facilities are fantastic hereabouts: they include two bespoke wetrooms and a kitchenette that’s kitted out with fridges, freezer, a microwave and a washing-up area along with a little ‘honesty box’ shop selling various products prepped by in-house chefs Ian and Jane. Themed meals are occasionally offered during busy periods on site. Guests are also welcome to use the Sunset Shack in the upper copse, a cosy hideaway with seating for both dining and relaxing alongside a cooking area with a double gas hob. As the name suggests, this is the place to go for top views of the spectacular sunsets that often appear around these parts. Meanwhile, the village of Llansantffraid (just under a mile away) is your go-to for mini supermarkets, pubs, a chip shop and a curry house.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: The pitches were absolutely wild camping, just pop your tent up and enjoy the outdoors! Luckily they let us use the fridge in the main camp with no bother - we weren’t as prepared as we thought! The campsite was lovely and quiet, with the added bonus of a tree being planted for us because of our ‘greener camping’ pass, we will definitely come back!

Rita cabin

Liked: Everything! Beatiful surroundings, peaceful and packed with wild life. Me and my partner stayed here for 2 days to reconnect with the nature and it worked out perfect. The hosts Jane and Ian are very lovely people who accommodated all our needs. They hosted pizza Fridays and they were delicious! Baked in front of us. Rita pod where we stayed was cozy, comfortable and equipped in everything we needed. It had a kitchen, its own toilet and shower too. We literally didn't have to leave for anything. We were allowed to have outside fire and inside burner for chilly nights. The pod is situated by the farm animal field and we were visited by cows and sheep on multiple occasions, which we absolutely adored 😊 there's so much to explore in the area which we will on our next trip. Would recommend this place no doubt!

Dafyyd non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: We have just got back from our weekend stay at Tipis at Ponty, where we throughly enjoyed our stay, the hosts Ian & Jane are really friendly & welcoming. The site itself is lovely, with each pitch shaped into the hill side giving you great views of the surrounding countryside. 100% would recommend Tipi’s at Ponty to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing getaway with great facilities. Plus getting to feed the pigs was a bonus for us as well.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Everything about Tipis at Ponty is great. Ian and Jane are great hosts. We stayed in the wild camping area with our 2 labradors who absolutely loved it including a dip in the river. We enjoyed a sociable and delicious pizza evening on the Saturday. We had a great break with plenty of space and freedom for us all.

Liked: Beautiful setting with great amenities. We usually do much more wild camping, but having the camp stove and fridge at our disposal was a treat.

Disliked: You can hear some road noise.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Host was friendly and welcoming, giving us a tour of our pitching area and giving us information about the local area. The pitch was in a beautiful location - well maintained wild camping area adjacent to stream and surrounded by plenty of wildlife. We had an absolutely great time and will definitely return - hopefully with some friends and make use of the yurts and tipis! Best wild camping I've used by far!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Tipis at Ponty is a fabulous site with lovely pitches that whilst quite close together give you the feel of privacy. The site is set in a lovely rural picturesque location and has super amenities including a compost toilet and eco showers. The hosts couldn't be more helpful and generous with their time. A great location for access to a variety of amazing walks and things to see and do although a car is a necessity for easy access to walks. My dog was made welcome too and he also thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

From the manager: We were so happy that you felt safe and at ease on our little site, and glad that you were able to upgrade to the tipi, to help your tent dry out and give you the experience on the main site too! We look forward to welcoming you back next season
