Blissful. I can't recommend this site enough. Ended up staying an extra night. I wanted to get away from it all and have some 'me' time. I couldn't think of a better place to do this. Previous feedback says difficult to find but that has been resolved, well signposted and good instructions. The owners don't bother you (I had to go and find them to pay for the extra night ) I will definitely be back.

The site lived up to expectations. Very friendly owners and the eco loo was spotless. When I arrived I had the pick of pitches but any of the pitches would have been great. The lake was tempting but travelling on my own I thought better of it!

    Disliked:

The noisey couple who arrived on Saturday pitched their tent within 15 feet of mine and proceeded to talk well into the night and then have very loud very intimate exercise! I should have taken earplugs!

Loved the compost toilet! Very liberating! And surprisingly clean and non-smelly! I also loved washing up our dishes in the sink at the stream. Beautiful area, extremely quiet, no signal, wonderful lake (shame it was too cold to go for a dip), we loved waking up to the sound of the birds and the bees sucking pollen off the nearby tree.

We almost gave up camping after experiences with awful, crowded, loud campsites but Gwalia Farm only have 5 pitches over their field, very peaceful. We will be back in the summer for a dip in the lake!

    Thank you!

Peaceful and beautiful area. I was the only camper there for both nights. Firewood was available. Friendly owners. Definitely out in the middle of nowhere. Toilet was nice and clean. Go here if you want to get away from it all.

It was nice and quiet, the view was really nice, perfect for couples, about 40 mins to Cemmaes (and the nearest pub). Definitely secluded in the middle of nowhere, would recommend to anyone who wants a nice quiet campsite as there are only 5 pitches, not much signal for people who want to be on their mobiles 24/7.

The location is in the middle of nowhere , you really do feel like you are wild camping which is exactly what we wanted. A little tricky to find at the last corner .. don't trust your sat nav (!) but while no one was there when we arrived , the onsite instructions were simple and clear enough. Good sized pitches for larger tents , the ground was a little boggy on the paths but there had been 3 days of rain just beforehand so not much of a complaint. Peace and quiet just like it said on the tin. Met Dee one of the owners on the second day and she was lovely , very welcoming and happy to help. The lake behind the pitch area is just stunning , view of a mountain , water not crystal clear but swimmable . I never thought id compliment an outdoor toilet ... but wow no smell !! Info on how it works is great. Water from the spring is clean , but prob not drinkable until boiled. Make sure you brush up on your fire making skills though (!) We were the only ones on site , apart from a couple in the cabin ... but honestly we wouldn't have traded . As far as local sights , we were lazy and drove to the main towns rather than walking (We had a 15yr old Dog with us , so thats our excuse) . Main town Macynlleth has a supermarket and everything you'd need , and the nearest beach at Aberdovey about 30 mins drive away is just simply stunning . My main memories will be total relaxation, peace and quiet , the most brilliant starry night sky I've seen for a long long time and not wanting to leave and return to civilisation .5 stars from us !! :)

Honestly ... there's really very little to criticise or dislike about the place at all. Perhaps a little sign at the last turning to show which direction to go in ?

Directions

From Aberystwyth, take the A487 to Machynlleth then the A489 to Cemmaes. In Cemmaes turn up hill (left if travelling West, right if travelling east). Continue up the hill (don't turn off toward Brynmeirig/Treehouses), and at the top of the hill the road takes a sharp right, continue following the road down a steep hill. The road then turns sharp left, past Troed-y-Ffordd, Gwalia is the next property, a yellow farmhouse with outbuildings. The camping lay-by is past the house on the left-hand side. There is a sign on the entrance to the camping field - pitch where you like and drop by the house to say hello.

From Shrewsbury, take the A458 west to Mallwyd, then take the A470 south to Cemmaes. Follow directions as above.
