  • Flat grass site with spectacular views of St Brides Bay
  • Within walking distance of St Davids and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Half a mile from an organic farm shop selling cheese, bacon and bread
Your car may possibly want a nice rest after a drive to Pembrokeshire. Which is why there aren’t many Mor prime Pembrokeshire locales than Glan-Y-Mor Camp Site: the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the teenily enticing city of St Davids are within walking distance and it’s a simple saunter to the nearest beach, cutely compact Caerfai. Going further afield? There are regular local bus services to the many other beaches in the area, for surfing, sunbathing or snapping the coastal views. Glan-Y-Mor is on two and a half acres of flat grass among the grounds of former guesthouse and 19th-century house Glan-Y-Mor (rumour has it that the house was once a haunt for smugglers peddling their nefarious wares). These days, it’s a peaceful place to use as a base for touring around St Davids peninsula via any way that takes your fancy: stick to walking, hail down a bus or hire a bike on site for a coast path cycle. The roomy pitches all have rather stunning views of St Brides Bay to the south and include access to free hot showers, toilets, a washing-up area, chemical disposal and an ice pack freezer. Supplies and essentials are plentiful locally, even on foot: an organic farm shop selling milk, cheese, bread, bacon and warm morning croissants is about half a mile down the road, and St Davids has a first-class food and wine deli selling fresh local produce and made to order rolls and baguettes. Your car will thank you for the rest…

Local attractions

This compact little area has quite a bit to see and do, with many more attractions, activities and good restaurants within a short bus ride or drive. Stop off at the city of St Davids first to see its 12th-century cathedral, a popular place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages (canny Pope Callixtus II decreed that two pilgrimages to St Davids = one pilgrimage to Rome, leading to the devout descending on it from all over. Clever.). Nature spotters can take an offshore islands boat trip from St Davids peninsula around Ramsey and Grassholm Islands to see porpoises, dolphins and occasionally whales in the water, and seabirds teeming all around. Ramsey has cliffs up to 120 metres high and Grassholm is the third most important gannet breeding area in the country with 39,000 pairs of birds ducking about – probably a bit noisy in spring… Speaking of noisy chicks, if you have the youngsters with you they’ll probably appreciate a day trip to meet the animals at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo or to try the various adventures of Heatherton World of Activities.
