Views around the site

  • Peaceful Pembrokeshire site with stables five mins' drive from Solva
  • A 10-minute drive from St Davids, Newgale and Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Bring your horse and hack to the beach
Giddy up and get down to this splendid spot on the Pembrokeshire coast. They're fond of horses at Birtwick Park: it's an equestrian smallholding where you can stay under the stars while your horse friend has a comfortable night in the stables. It's not obligatory to bring an equestrian accomplice of course; everyone is welcome (including well-behaved dogs) to come and enjoy the views of the hills and the coast on this green and peaceful site, five minutes' drive from the little harbour at Solva. Stargazers and birdwatchers should be particularly happy here, as the night skies are massive and clear while pheasants and barn owls make themselves heard around the fields. Gazing down to the ground for practicalities, you can park where you stay and borrow firepits for sizzling your bangers on; if you don't fancy cowboy cooking Solva has many fine pubs with hot grub and shops for stocking up. Solva is also where walkers can join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, 680 miles of fine terrain encountering castles, moorlands and weathered cliffs teeming with wildlife. Try a modest section walking round to Newgale beach, with a paddle and pint among the surfers as your just reward.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, rural campsite with spacious pitches and beautiful views, popular with walkers and those seeking a quiet break. Visitors frequently praise the clean and well-maintained toilet and shower facilities, along with the friendly horses in the adjacent field. While some early reviews mentioned unkempt areas and dated facilities, later comments, particularly from May 2025 onwards, highlight significant recent upgrades, with many guests describing the site as clean, tidy, and modernised. Access roads can be narrow, and some guests have noted a lack of on-site shops and WiFi.

Liked The setting was beautiful and (on the whole) peaceful...
Facilities were good and clean.

Disliked The only issue was the showers, as in previous reviews. It doesn't spoil the experience though...

Electric grass pitch

Liked well spaced pitches and convenient for visiting local attractions

Disliked impossible to dry yourself properly or get dressed in the gents shower block because there is nothing to sit on in the shower or in the toilet block. Also nowhere to put your soap when showering yourself other than on the floor

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked A lovely out of the way but not remote site. The basics are all there, clean and tidy. The views are beautiful and it's so peaceful and quiet too. We had a lovely relaxing time! Our fellow travellers were all very friendly and dog lovers too, which makes for nice interactions (dog and human). Jayne is a lovely host and will definitely be going back. We have found our spot. Highly recommend.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

Two splendid Pembrokeshire seaside spots are within five minutes' drive: the fab surf beach of Newgale, a spectacular two-mile stretch edged by an enormous pebble bank, and Solva, home to a scenic harbour with shops, pubs and kayak and canoe hire. There are plenty of picnic places at both, particularly at Newgale where the solitary-minded can stroll all the way down to the beach's southern end and through a cave to a cluster of sheltered bays. Another Pembrokeshire must-see is tiny St Davids, the smallest city in the UK. Have a day here to see its famed cathedral founded in the sixth century and the 13th-century Bishops Palace next door, then book a boat trip to fab Ramsay Island for seal spotting and birdwatching. If you still yearn for sea and surf, one of the most acclaimed surfing beaches in Pembrokeshire, Whitesands Bay, is a couple of miles to the west of St Davids. Pembrokeshire's top family attractions are within easy day trip distance too: Dr Beynon's Bug Farm is 10 minutes' drive away, Folly Farm 45 and Heatherton within 50.
