General

  • Wildlife haven and birdwatching site 12 miles from Aberystwyth
  • Watch the resident red kites at feeding time each day
  • Friendly owners, free wifi and modern clean amenities

Ever been to the Aeron Valley near Aberystwyth? It's really rather lush – so much so that local lyricist Dylan Thomas named his daughter Aeronwy after the river here (what a poetic parent).

The valley is also a birdwatching haven that amateur ornithologists scramble to, although you won't have to stir far from your pitch or static to see local flyers if you stay at small family-run Aeron View Camping… the park has its own resident red kites which swoop down at feeding time every day. (Yes, of course you should bring the means to take pics.)

Owners Nick and Dina took over Aeron View Camping in 2015 and have given it a full facelift as well as adding lots of little extras all around, like an honesty box for the launderette and showers instead of coin operation, a dedicated dog walking area (with free biodegradable bags available at reception to pick up any canine deposits), a small shop open daily, and free wifi access throughout. A communal campers' fridge is in the laundry room.

The newly renovated shower and loo block has a new hot water system and family and disabled-friendly facilities; Nick and Dina have also added a new reception, site furniture and two large pre-erected gazebos for use on rainy days. The site is licensed to sell beer, wine and spirits.

Dogs are very welcome at Aeron View Camping, but please keep them on leads apart from when in the dog walk area.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Very very hospitable couple couldnt do enough to help. Had a problem with tap in back kitchen..was boiler problem reported and fixed within minutes. Caravan spotlessly clean. Dog walk small but nice.. plus dog bin there in dog walk so able to get rid dog rubbish straight away.... Gas barbeque available free of charge, which we didn't use but was nice to have available. If camping facilities good owners have tried to think of everything.. we usually camp so checked this out. Caravan and couple can't fault.. Site goes quiet at 11...if camping take a torch because site quite dark late on.
Exceptional customer service!!!!!! very friendly site

    Disliked:

Disliked the fact a tent was pitched in front of caravan when we arrived...reason was explained why..but still felt bit lacking in privacy...plus if wanted to sit out by caravan couldn"t. Disliked idiot with drone late on...
But to be fair owners can't be held responsible for that and was done by 11 ...so only true grip was close proximity of tent... but nice couple in tent so wasn't really an issue..but could of been different outcome .. felt a bit claustraphobic

The scenery is beautiful and so calm and peaceful. We had the river behind our tent and was so calming throughout the night. The red kyte feeding was amazing!! They were literally metres away from us.
The toilets and showers were fantastic! Was a nice treat to have a lovely warm shower and use a toilet block that was clean. We had electric hook up with us and it was a great bonus! You are very spoilt with natural beauty at this campsite, and we will return (hopefully next time the weather's better for us!). Thankyou :).

    Disliked:

I know you dont go camping to use wifi or phones, however we was unfortunate with the weather on the Sunday/Monday and had to resort to sitting in our tent watching some films. The wifi signal wasnt the best, even the owner noticed this. But was just because the weather was not the best that it was needed. No ones fault!

Thank you for your kind words much appreciated

Little gem of a campsite , friendly owners , great facilities. 21/08/2017

Lovely campsite , I camped for 1 week in August 2017 with 3 children aged 15,12,9. First impressions were good, Nick and Dina are friendly owners who made our stay very welcoming. The site is well maintained, recycle bins for food are given to you and dotted around the site by bbqs and washing up area.
We were shown around the facilities , showers(always nice and warm) , disabled shower and bathroom, separate toilets(cleaned everyday) as well . A washing up area with 2 sinks, a cold water hose, great for rinsing things off. A washer, dryer and fridge to share . There is a BBQ area with picnic benches, 3 x BBQ's, one with a stove for warming up saucepans, with gas, all inclusive of price.
There are 2 other picnic benches on the grass area with parasols, great for eating breakfast out of the tent.
Location is great for a peaceful holiday, about half an hour drive to an hour from Aberystwyth or Aberaeron (a great little seaside town for shops , costcutter supermarket , spar type shops, restaurants and crabbing in the harbour !)
Local spar in tregaron 4 miles from the campsite for fresh food supplies too .
The campsite reception has leaflets for adventure in the area and takeaways nearby. It is stocked with essentials such as milk, teabags, icecreams, pop, wine or beer , tins of food and some games , books for the kids etc.
My boys loved to watch the Red kite birds swooping down when they were fed each afternoon on the campsite.
There are 2 gazebos with hay in for the kids to play in too.
Overall a great holiday , would definitely recommend and return.
Wi-Fi available but at times was dificult to pick up, this didnt spoil our holiday though.
Nick and Dina gave us great advice around the area for places to see.

    Disliked:

Didn't dislike anything, maybe a suggestion of an activity wooden play area for kids to climb on.

Local attractions

What lovely land this is… in a river valley close to the coast and full of options for walks, wildlife and birdwatching, coarse and game fishing and heaps of Welsh history…

If you're here for nature, start off at Cors Caron, a nearby reserve on 2000 acres of bog built up from thousands of years' worth of peat layers. It's well known for its wildlife, especially winter migrating birds, grassland birds and adders, and otters around the River Teifi, which runs at various points in and around the reserve.

For walks (and cycling, canoeing and more birdwatching), the valley landscape of the Strata Florida is about eight miles away – we recommend seeing abbey ruins too. Nick and Dina can also give details of the popular walks organised by their local guide.

Welsh history? Four miles to Aeron View Camping's south-west lies the thirteenth century market town of Tregaron and home of the Welsh Gold Centre (if you're around in summer, get into town for the Tregaron 'Trotian' event – horse trotting and carriage racing). The Dolaucothi Gold Mines, first delved into by the Romans, are within 15 miles.

Finally, make time for at least a day in excellent Aberystwyth 12 miles to the north west from Aeron View, for at least one trip on the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill for a fab vista of Cardigan Bay.

Time must also be made for looks around the Aberystwyth Arts Centre and the National Library of Wales, and for another steam-based trip on the Vale of Rheidol Railway to the waterfalls of Devils Bridge.

Must see

  • Llanerchaeron - National Trust (9.9 miles)
  • Vale of Rheidol Railway (Aberystwyth) (11.0 miles)
