The house from the distance

General

  • Cabin with stunning views over Cardigan Bay
  • 10 minutes' walk from Aberaeron; two minutes from sea and coast path
  • Kitchenette and bathroom, plus hot tub overlooking the sea

A hot tub on hols is always a fine thing. A sea view is on hols is an equally fine thing. And in an easy equation even for the mathematically challenged, it follows that a hot tub with a sea view is a very good thing indeed.

For this cracking Ceredigion combo you’ll need to head way out west, to Ty Gwyn Apartments on the outskirts of the town of Aberaeron. This fab spot is right by the sea with gorgeous views out over Cardigan Bay and easy access to the Ceredigion Coast Path, a couple of minutes' wander away through a neighbouring field. Seaside strolls are a splendid idea, of course – especially if you reward any such hiking efforts with a session in that open-air hot tub (for a small extra charge).

After all the walks and watery wallowing, keep the sea views going as you settle in your little studio; it’s got a small kitchenette (with access to a fridge-freezer) for snacks and drinks as you gaze out of the window, and there’s also a shower room with toilet and sink for easy ablutions.

Heading out, it’s a 10-minute stroll down to the centre of Aberaeron for pubs, eats and beach days, and around a 15-minute drive to New Quay, a hub for dolphin-spotting boat trips.

Please note

Spray tan users are not allowed to use the hot tub.

Please note that the summer house is in the owners' garden; however, it is privately set and is for the exclusive use of guests.

From 2020 please be aware that there is no longer direct access to the beach and Coastal Path for dogs.

Absolutely everything! Ian and Micheal are absolutely fantastic and they go far above all expectations as hosts. Extremely welcoming and helpful. We had car troubles on the way and they asked could they pick us up which we declined as was too far to put them out they then went and found out all the local train information for us to get us closer and they can pick us up their. Thankfully we managed to get a family memeber to take us the rest of the way. Ian then gave us a lift back to the train station so we could collect our car on our return which we cannot thank them for enough. The summer house is beautiful and clean and the views are out of this world. A clear night sky in the hot tub just sat looking up is breathtaking. The hot tub water was tested daily to ensure it was safe. The summer house had everything we needed pots/pans and cups etc, plenty of tea and coffee supplied too which is a plus. We have stayed here twice now and we love it and it wont be long until we are back

Absolutely loved staying at Ty Gwyn Apartments!! I cannot fault anything as everything was so positive. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed and more, the hot tub was a plus!! You can walk from your cabin straight to beach and to town which has a good variety of places to eat. The beach isn’t so great but you can travel to New Quay, aberystwyth etc which isn’t too far. Such a lovely couple, made us feel comfortable and welcoming, shown us around our cabin and gave us lots of information and guides. We would definitely stay again in the summer and highly recommend this to others as it is at a great price!!

The cabin was wonderful with amazing location and Ian and Mike were great ...they even offered us another night for free when it was looking like we may not get back to Manchester because of floods on the route home
Hot tub was great even in howling winds ...top tip take a dressing town for the short dash out of tub to hut
    Certainly dog friendly too
    The town is lovely too
Definitely want to go back especially in better weather
Ps we don't have kids but it seemed child frendly

    Disliked:

Not the owners fault at all but it was a shame the Rugby club has stopped people with dogs being able to cut through their land to access coast path ...we thought it was rather mean as it was only a tiny bit of their land and not even near the pitches !!! However it is only a short walk on paved roads to the town

Just had our second stay at Ty Gwyn Summer House this year. An exceptional place to go to if you just want to get away from it all and totally relax. Even though the weather was truly dismal, we still had a great stay. Our hosts are a lovely couple and nothing is to much trouble for them. We could only use the hot tub once during our stay as the weather was so bad, nevertheless, we had a great time. Thank you guys for another warm welcome and a lovely clean comfy place to relax. See you in 2020.😀

Directions

Head out of Aberaeron towards Aberystwyth for a quarter of a mile. Take the left towards the rugby club, then turn right down the hill.

Local attractions

Aberaeron’s got two patches of beach to seek out, with one of them being a good launching spot for those who’ve got canoes, small boats or windsurfers to take out on the sea. If paddling in the waves here seems a tad chilly, take swims in the town’s leisure centre instead.

Heading into town is best done on foot with a 10-minute wander along the coast path; once you’ve warmed up with that little wander it’s also worth making the trip to the National Trust’s Llanerchaeron estate, a smart pad a couple of miles away along a quiet path (also suitable for folk travelling on two wheels).

A little further afield are go-karting and coarse fishing (both about four miles away) and busy days out poking around in Aberystwyth (half an hour’s drive), taking in the castle, the beaches, the National Library of Wales and the classic cliff railway. Surely also on the must-do list is a dolphin-spotting boat trip from New Quay (15 minutes’ drive).

Must see

  • Llanerchaeron - National Trust (2.2 miles)
  • Vale of Rheidol Railway (Aberystwyth) (13.4 miles)
  • National Wool Museum (16.6 miles)

National Trust

  • Dolaucothi Gold Mines (18.8 miles)
  • Aberdeunant (27.3 miles)
