The Shack microlodge

Liked: The shack was cosy and very well equipped. We were alone on the campsite so had all the facilities to ourselves! Friendly and helpful owners. Perfect place for a chill out.

Disliked: Nothing really. Maybe proper glasses would be good, one of the plastic wine glasses were a bit melted and deformed so we were swigging out of plastic tumblers!

Local attractions

The National Botanic Garden of Wales (half an hour’s drive) is anchored by a futuristic glass dome sheltering plants from Mediterranean climes. Also on site are an area with medicinal herbs, a bee-friendly zone and a Japanese-style garden. Children can join a pond-dipping session to learn more about dragonflies and newts. There are two beaches in New Quay (35 minutes) (including a dog-friendly stretch), plus a curved fishing pier that shelters a small marina. In addition to having informative panels, the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre runs boat tours to see dolphins and colonies of breeding seabirds. Residents at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (45 minutes) range from African big cats to penguins, not forgetting the farmyard animals, whom you can feed and cuddle. There are also vintage rides, including a giant Ferris wheel, as well as outdoor pirate-themed play areas.
