  • Spacious farm site over two acres on the banks of the river Marlais
  • Brechfa Forest and Brecon Beacons within a half-hour drive
  • Open-air hot shower, campfire areas and secure bike storage available
Up for meandering along the Marlais river? At this peaceful farm site you'll be able to wander, picnic and set up campfires on both sides of its splendid banks. Glynmarch Farm is about a mile away from the small village of Llansawel, a handy location indeed given that two top-rated pubs are within easy walking distance. This well-connected spot is well-placed for those looking to explore Carmarthenshire and beyond: checking out the depths of Brechfa Forest (20 minutes' drive) and exploring the wide open spaces of the Brecon Beacons National Park (30 minutes) are two jaunts that the owners highly recommend. The pitches at this site are spread over two acres of countryside and have views over two gorgeous valleys. Wild swims in the river can also be sorted. Facilities-wise, Glynmarch Farm strikes a balance between convenience and keeping things on the wild side: there's a hot open-air shower, a washing-up point and toilets of both the composting and flushing variety. Cycling types may be pleased to note that a covered barn is available for safe and secure bike storage. Other parts of the farm are also fair game for rambling – keep your eyes peeled for the inquisitive Glynmarch resident sheep if coming here in the summer or autumn months. Barbecues and campfires can be lit at several spots around the site, all of which have been chosen for their specially scenic surrounds.

What customers say

This campsite offers a peaceful escape in a stunning Welsh countryside location with beautiful views and wildlife. Pitches are spacious, and facilities, including showers and compost toilets, are consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with some noting the unique charm of open-sky showers. Friendly and welcoming owners are frequently mentioned. Guests appreciate the quiet atmosphere, the nearby river for dips, and the availability of campfires. While some teenagers missed Wi-Fi, adults generally welcomed the digital detox. Some minor points like ping pong balls have been noted by guests.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The scenery, the peace, the pitches are lovely, close to the river, lovely little pub near by

Disliked Could have done with an extra toilet perhaps but was only had to wait once or twice in the mornings.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Absolutely idyllic this one. Greeted by Simon and his wife (lovely couple). Found a nice pitch in the corner (don’t forget your levelling chocks!). Was going to have a walk into the village but loved the site so much just chilled out there. Brought own shower unit but didn’t need as showers there were spot of. Loads of space for changing and hanging clothes etc. This site exceed my expectations. £12 a night this place is a steal. Recommend this one 100%.

Disliked Two nights wasn’t enough!

Liked Great place. It was our 4th time there. We especially enjoy the dark skies and the lack of mobile network. Clean toilets and showers.

Local attractions

Dragons love to guard it, Celtic kings couldn't get enough of it and modern British royals don't settle for anything else when choosing a wedding ring – suffice it to say that Welsh gold is a rare and splendid thing indeed. Make for Dolaucothi Gold Mines (15 minutes' drive) to see how it's been hunted out since Roman times (the surrounding National Trust-managed land is also a treasure trove of wildlife, so bring some binoculars too). After delving into the past at the mines, pedalling through Brechfa Forest (20 minutes), exploring Dinefwr Castle (25 minutes) and pottering around the National Botanic Gardens of Wales (35 minutes) can all be added to the agenda; if you organise yourself well there'll also be some time left over to visit gorgeous Llyn Brianne lake (an hour). Wales has some 1,370 miles of coastline to its name, and while Glynmarch Farm isn't the most obvious spot for beach holidays it can certainly be done. Aberaeron (40 minutes) is a top pick if you're heading west, while Tenby (an hour and 10 minutes) is a must if you plump for Pembrokeshire.
