  • Pop-up site at a remote Carmarthenshire 35-acre smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive to Brechfa Forest; National Botanic Garden 20 mins
  • Nature trail, bird-feeding areas and mini observatory on site
Carmarthenshire countryside calling? You’ll be right in the midst of it all at Glanrhyd Farm Camping, part of a 35-acre smallholding with sheep and hens plus all manner of fruit and veg growing around the place. This is a proper rural experience, tucked away in a quiet location 275 metres above sea level and 20 minutes’ drive from Carmarthen. It's the kind of place where kids can amuse themselves building dens, playing games on the field or messing about in the sandpit. Follow the kilometre-long nature trail to follow for sightings of rabbits, butterflies and other critters along the stream, or settle at the bird-feeding area where regular visitors include sparrows, woodpeckers and chaffinches. Keep your eyes and ears peeled also for owls, buzzards and red kites. Much of the joy of this location is to be found in just doing things at your own (nicely slow) pace, but there are also activities to join in with from time to time – ask your hosts if they're running any nature hunts or treasure hunts for the kids, or if you’d like to try a willow weaving taster session. They’ll also be able to arrange for you to take a look through the telescope in their mini observatory. As a pop-up site the facilities here are on the simple side, but you'll have access to compost toilets, a shower and a washing-up area and you'll be able to light a campfire for toasty warm evenings (and maybe a bit of cooking).
