  • Peaceful 20-acre dog-friendly site with views of Llansteffan's hills
  • A 10-minute drive to Carmarthen and the beach; castles further out
  • On-site play area with swings and slides; shops and pubs in Carmarthen
You might like the sound of walks along the Welsh clifftops or be keen to explore castles, gold mines and the countryside of West Wales. Either way, you’ll need a cosy base, and that’s exactly what you get at Church House Farm Getaways. This quiet, peaceful site in Carmarthenshire is just the place for families, friends and pets to unwind in between their adventures. What do you get by way of views? Well, the 20 acres of land overlook the splendid hills and fields of Llansteffan. Facilities? At your disposal are toilets, showers and a playground with swings and slides where the kids can run off any excess energy. When you’re rather craving a day on some golden sand, Llansteffan beach is just 10 minutes’ drive away and next to Llansteffan Castle with spectacular views over the Tywi estuary. Otherwise, make your way right onto the Wales Coast Path, which runs past the site. With your dose of fresh sea air and hikes sorted, it may be time to head to Carmarthen for a little urban entertainment. A 10-minute drive away, the county town is crammed with places to eat out including pubs and restaurants, plus shops and markets. Those of you who are also fans of the sand, sea and that sort of thing can locate swims and shipwrecks at Pembrey Country Park (35 minutes' drive). Other options are paddleboarding from Saundersfoot beach (40 minutes) or sea expeditions from Tenby, such as kayak sessions through caves and jet ski safaris to Caldey Island.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful site in beautiful countryside with lovely scenery.
Very clean and tidy
Showers and toilets spotlessly clean
Warm welcome from host
Hissy welcome from Sebastian the goose!! You have to meet him, but don’t get too close 😂
Would definitely stay again and recommend to others

Disliked Only thing I would say - paying to use the shower £1 for 5 mins. I would say though, the shower was powerful and the water very hot which is a bonus. Swings n roundabouts I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

Electric grass pitch

Liked The cleanliness of the site on arrival was lovely to see.

All pitches was spacious and allowing the vehicles to remain at the pitch is always a bonus.

Disliked Due to the size of the site (small) I believe introducing (quiet times) no music or outside gatherings after 11pm.

Sadly we had an adult group up until 1am which kept my wife and daughter awake.

From the manager: i am very sorry to hear this and can only apologise . Our quiet time begins at 10pm and had you called the emergency number to let us know we could have asked the party to quieten down

Electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the site not to big, great family friendly site. Little shop for essentials. Great welcome on the site.

Disliked The facilities could of been a little cleaner. But not un usable, also more places to put bags whilst showering. I found when adult and child I was struggling to find some where to put stuff to keep dry.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Loved everything! The views were amazing, it was central to lots of places with only a half hour drive to most of the areas we wanted to go to. Affordable. The owners of the site (Bonnie and Shane) were so attentive to anything we needed. Our 2 year old has a fascination with diggers and tractors and they were more than happy to let him sit in their vehicles. This was a huge highlight of the campsite for him but he also never wanted to leave the park. He loved the geese (especially Sebastian), the chickens and the ducks. It was also lovely to see their dogs Sam and Ben, very friendly dogs. The showers/toilet cubicles were always clean and it was nice to be able to use a singular cubicle which wasn't a shared bathroom facility. Grass and environment was always maintained well making it easy to camp on. Lights around the site to make it easy to see in the evenings and allow you to hire a campfire and purchase logs which was a lot cheaper than buying it in the shops which was lovely in the evenings with a nice cold drink. The owners attention to detail by always finding ways to improve things for their guests including mowing a path for a dog walking area around the site while reducing the risk of your dog getting ticks and taking the time to come and speak to guests about their day and where they had visited and then making suggestions based on your interests. They (particularly Shane) would also talk to you about the history of the campsite and area having great subject knowledge. He was also able to recognise if you just wanted a family holiday without the discussions.

Route directions

When travelling from the west along the A40, please continue to follow the A40 until you reach the first big roundabout (next to B&Q). Take the road signposted for Llansteffan from the roundabout. Do not come off the A40 before this point, as otherwise there is a very steep and difficult hill. The road leading to the site is a single track, so to ensure you do not meet oncoming farm traffic and have to reverse, please turn onto Church Road, drive past the first layby and pull into the second concrete layby on the right (at the top of the hill). Then, call Bonnie or Shane using the details provided upon booking. They will stop anyone going down to allow you to travel the short distance up to the site.

Local attractions

When you’re not navigating your way around the Wales Coast Path, other places that will bring you a little closer to nature include the acres of countryside, formal gardens and nature reserve at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes’ drive). Smaller but just as spectacular are Aberglasney Gardens (half an hour) and Green Castle Wood (20 minutes’ walk). Those of you who’d like to have a good poke around some historical places will have great opportunities around here too. Dinefwr Castle (35 minutes’ drive) and Kidwelly Castle (25 minutes) are some of the local fortresses. Mining history is on the menu at the National Trust’s Dolaucothi Gold Mines (55 minutes). From further back in time, the National Trust’s Newton House at Dinefwr (35 minutes) has an 18th-century deer park and a Welsh country house with a nature reserve on all sides. There’s the Gwili Steam Railway (20 minutes) too, if you fancy climbing aboard a steam train. Looking for those family-friendly places that can keep the kids well entertained? Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (35 minutes) and Oakwood Theme Park (40 minutes) have that down.
