General

  • Small, peaceful and sheltered site near Milford Haven
  • Among spectacular scenery a hike or short drive from the beach
  • Bar, restaurant, fridges, freezers and charging point

In search of a serene sojourn in south Wales? Check out Foxdale Campsite, near Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire: this small site is surrounded by splendid scenery, and the pitches are fully sheltered from the breezes that occasionally buffet the nearby coast.

The catering options are comprehensive, considering the site’s bijou nature: there’s a small bar and restaurant in the main house; the option of a takeaway breakfast or evening meal if you prefer; and the friendly owners will happily make up packed lunches for those heading out on expeditions along the clifftop paths and beyond.

Essential amenities are good too: showers and toilets, laundry facilities, fridges and freezers, a washing-up area, and a charging point for mobile phones and other gadgets (there’s a small charge for the latter, but all monies go to charity). Firepits are also available to hire outside peak season.

A small site with good facilities. Toilets and showers were clean. Fish and chip van on Saturday night but also excellent food at the local pub. Coffee tea and breakfast available on site too.

    Disliked:

Pitches were a little bit to close but it was a bank holiday so busy.

Quietness and location . Asked for a flat pitch , but needed to use our ramps. Owners very friendly. Little breakfast and evening cafe serving bacon sandwiches. Curry or baked potatoes as an example in the evening. Nice wooden benches dotted round field. Located in quiet village not far from a shop and cafe and a pub with nice pub grub. Short walk to get onto coastal path with stunning views. We walked a lot was beautiful.

    Disliked:

Toilets had no hot water only cold to wash hands with. Didn't like that.
Showers were a bit hit and miss hard to regulate. The site says evening meal available at the guest house on site. When we were there the owners I guess, were away so no evening meals available . Also a chip van used on Friday and Saturday on site. That also didn't appear.

From the manager...

Really sorry about the fish and chip van, we are away at a family wedding, it will be running from now on.

Friendliness of other campers. Short walk to local pub-ideal for pub food. Excellent wifi connection.

    Disliked:

Facilities were very sub-standard. Showers and toilets hadn't been cleaned and had several huge spiders nests in them. Also there was definitely not enough for a busy bank holiday weekend so had to queue for toilet/shower and to wash dishes.
Owner was extremely rude to us as he wanted us to move our awning so he could squeeze another camper in between us and the next people when we wouldn't he told us "we could leave if we wanted to" we declined and stayed put.
Would say I definitely won't go back there and I would advise that bank holiday weekends seem to be all about the money.

Local attractions

Most people come here to get away from it all, so the main focus is on the beautiful natural attractions of the Marloes Peninsula.

The local beach for Foxdale Campsite - an energetic walk or a very short drive away - is clean, uncrowded Marloes Sands, a huge expanse of beach at low tide, with rockpools and unusual cliff formations for added drama.

Hop on a boat at nearby Martin’s Haven for the 15-minute crossing to Skomer Island, bliss for birdwatchers: as well as cormorants, razorbills and many other sea birds, between April and August the island plays home to a sizeable puffin colony.

Skomer is also a good place to see grey seals, although you can often spot them from dry land as well, during the short walk around the cliff tops at Martin’s Haven Deer Park (no deer, but spectacular wild flowers and sea views).

For active types, there are many more fab walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, as well as golf, sailing, windsurfing, sea fishing and pony trekking nearby.
