Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: we stayed last night and had a wonderful time it's truly a special spot not over crowed, and felt like we was properly wild camping, we travel quite along way and it honestly was worth it 100% , we will be back in the future, so much to do with not to far of a drive from the campsite. The views were specular and the firepits provided are a super nice touch and the bags of logs you can get

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Excellent site in a beautiful location! Small, quiet site with plenty of woodland to explore and loved that we could use a fire. Compost toilet was actually one of the more pleasant campsite loos we've had. Owners more than happy to answer our questions. We will definitely be returning!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Peaceful campsite with plenty of space. A real close to nature experience. The toilet is one of the nicest, cleanest long drop toilets I’ve ever used! Fire pits were lovely and wood was available to purchase on site. Loved the little honesty shop as well. All in all we had a great night staying here

Over the woods bell tent

Liked: Very peaceful, beautiful meadow and woods. Small site which very much suited us. Our son (3) loved exploring & looking at all the flowers, butterflies and grasshoppers. Fire pits and logs available and spacious, clean compost loo / bathroom with toilet roll & soap provided. We were only able to stay one night so chose the bell tent as its pre pitched. The mattress provided in there was comfy. Thanks for a great stay! We hope to come back.

Disliked: No dislikes! The addition of running water will useful for a longer stay, but this is a new site so hopefully something for a future stay.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: There was shed that had a few supplies, such as cups, fire pits and emergency water. The compost toilet was in a shed that had a sink, with toilet roll and bottled water and soap available to wash hands.

This was my first time camping as an adult and I had my 4 and 8 year old. I was worried I didn't bring enough of what I needed but was impressed as to what was available. There was also plenty of room for the kids to play around. Beautiful place for sunsets also.

Local attractions

Staying at Golden Hill Wood means easy access to hiking paths and cycling trails in the Black Mountains (half an hour’s drive), and all the sporting action – paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking – along the river in the Wye Valley (20 minutes). If you’re travelling with kids, the wacky sculpture trails in the Forest of Dean (45 minutes) might persuade them that walking is a ‘good thing’ to do. For more strenuous sporting activity, go gorge walking at Symonds Yat (40 minutes), run yourselves ragged on rope courses and zipwires at Puzzlewood (35 minutes), or ride a Segway through the forest at Go Ape Mallards Pike (45 minutes). Less adrenaline-inducing pursuits hereabouts include castle-spotting: have a wander round the romantic ruins of 15th-century Raglan Castle, and admire the mighty defence towers at clifftop Chepstow Castle (both 20 minutes). Alternatively, spend a peaceful afternoon exploring the chapels and cloisters of landmark Tintern Abbey (25 minutes), or discover all about regional Welsh life at the Usk Rural Life Museum (15 minutes).
