Pub a few minutes' walk away

General

  • Quiet rural site in St Brides Major, a half-hour walk from the beach
  • A 15-min drive from surf lessons and other watersports in Porthcawl
  • Two pubs and a farm shop within easy walking distance

It’s all about simple seaside stays at Pool Farm, a friendly, quiet rural site in the village of St Brides Major and a half-hour stroll from Southerndown beach.

This is a splendid spot for a laidback break, with plenty of fresh-air antics available along this stunning stretch of the south Wales coast. A riding centre is in the village, there’s a golf course a few minutes drive away (beware sea views distracting you from your swing), and the Wales Coast Path is half an hour away for a bit of leg stretching.

Plus, of course, those beaches – bask on the sands at Southerndown or take the 15-minute drive to Porthcawl for surf lessons, kiteboarding and other coastal adventures.

The site itself has been left blissfully straightforward, the peaceful pitches served by just the basics (showers, toilets and a washing-up area). A fab little farm shop is a few minutes’ walk away for organic meat supplies and there are a couple of pubs within walking distance for pints and food.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Fantastic location, 2 minute drive from dunraven bay or about a mile walk across fields. Ogmore is 5 minutea drive away and plenty to see and do, castle ruins, sand dune walks, horse riding. Based on a farm so the children liked saying hello to the animals and finding a peacock feather was a highlight.

    Disliked:

Very BASIC facilities. One toilet and one shower which weren't cleaned as often as other campsites we have stayed at. There were some portaloos but they smelt utterly revolting by the second night as the hot weather and high volume of usage. The main field is right next to a main road which has loud rumbling lorries going up and down.

Nice location, good size level pitches. Picnic benches are really handy. The kids loved the Resident peacock popping in for a visit! Basic camp site, we had a great time & will be returning. Easy booking process

Site was clean, nicely laid out and had good facilities, was walkable to the beach and has a gorgeous pub just across the road.
Great location for visiting lots of other places nearby in Wales
Car park was a little small however the owners always found an available space to park and were friendly and relaxed. All in all a wonderful bank holiday.

Local attractions

Let’s start with those beaches… you can’t venture very far round these parts without stumbling upon one or the other. Southerndown beach (aka Dunraven Bay) is the closest, and a fab place for keen-eyed types to do a spot of fossil hunting or rockpooling. Ogmore-by-Sea and surfers' fave Rest Bay are other top picks nearby.

Those who like their beach days served up with plenty of antics should head over to Porthcawl, 15 minutes away – here there’s a surf school, a kiteboarding centre and an activity centre that can fix up days of kayaking, canyoning and coasteering. Golfers can wield a club in Porthcawl or Southerndown, and riders can saddle up for pony days, beach canters and horseback pub crawls at the stables in St Brides Major.

If you fancy a break from the open air stuff, there’s a sizeable outlet shopping village 20 minutes’ drive from the site (also a fab place to pick up extra kit for your outdoorsy adventures).

Must see
